He does not cheat or accuse his opponent of doing so because he is not able to accept defeat. He treats his opponent with the respect due a friendly foe. As an individual, he plays not for the glory for himself but for the team. As a spectator, he is not critical of the acts of the players or members of a team. Inexperi- ence seemed to be the Bulldogs toughest oppo- nent. The season just ended too quickly this year, as the team was just starting to play real solid baseball when District Playoffs began. This was due partly to bad weather, which was responsible for the cancellation of twelve games early in the season. The Bulldogs were relatively young losing only three Seniors: (right) Pitcher — John Tyler; (upper right) Third Baseman — Rusty Tucker; and (upper left) Center Fielder — Randy Hendrix. Twelve other players will be back next year for another turn at bat. This was one of Stratford High School’s most suc- cessful basketball seasons in many years. Not only did the basket- ball team have outstanding athletes, but this team had outstanding leaders, outstanding citizens and outstanding students. Having started the season with a few uneventful games, the high school boys later hit their stride and ended the season with an impressive 16-8 record. They demonstrated that the proper combi- nation of coaching and playing can produce a winning season. Over all we feel that Stratford should be proud of these young men’s accomplishments this past year. The grade school presented the operetta, “Cowboy on the Moon” on May 2, 1978. During the 1977-78 school year the music classes were really busy. They enjoyed singing popu- lar songs as well as the tra- ditional tunes. In preparing students for competition and concerts, it is essential that they learn the rudiments of music; these include learning music theory in detail and becoming acquainted with some musical instruments such as the flutophone and piano. The student then applies what he has learned in the classroom through his performances during the year. In November, the choir performed at Open House. During the month of December some of the choir members participated in ECU’s production of the “Messiah.” The entire choir participated in the Christ- mas music program. In the spring they competed in the District Music Contest and placed very well. The grade school, junior high and high school students traveled to Elmore City to see their presentation of ““Thomas Edison, the Electric Sun- shine Man.” Other activities included Tri-State in Enid during May and a school concert on April 24 and 25. Congratulations to all of the music classes on their success this year. a re as 3 44 FFA Has a Golden Past (top) Ronnie Bonner, Mark Gammill, Steve Woods, Mike Jeter, Mark Savage, Larry Hin- kle, Johnny Lamb. Through these various activities, the young person helps develop his “head, heart, hands and health” which is the purpose of 4-H. Industrial Arts Classes Each year many students at Stratford High enjoy the wide variety of programs offered through Industrial Arts Education. Students are challenged through various projects to construct items using good craftsmanship and finishing techniques for practical use. Throughout the beginning of the school year, students watched with anticipation as their new building took shape. On May 4 the Industrial Arts Department presented its annual Industrial Arts Fair which also served as an Open House for the new shop building. af Enjoy New Facilities. The fair is presented each year and gives the students a chance to show what they have made during the year in their shop classes. This is partially accomplished through one of the various special classes offered in our school. Special reading and individual help are one of the services offered by our group of specialized teachers. In the above picture Mrs. Gayla Leach works with her group of students and in the picture below Mrs. Emily Weese offers individ- ual help to these students. Other specialized teachers are Mrs. Linda Dickinson — Learning Disabilities; Mrs. Helen Watts — Special Reading; and Mrs. Rosemary Bradley — Title I. New Beginnings During 1978. During 1978 many changes took place at school. New counselors were added to the faculty staff — Mrs. Hazel Robertson (right) for high school and Mrs. Carol Winton (right center) for elementary. New playground equipment and a new fence were welcome additions for the grade school, and everyone enjoyed the new cafeteria and shop building. The interior, also, experienced a face-lift in the manner of new ceilings and heaters for the entire school. py : “ meee : % For, | aT asaguaae ‘ar . gl ORS New Faces, New Places Mark og } See, itp, 69 Peggy Morrison Six years ago, we the Senior Class had a very tragic experience. In the sixth grade Peggy Morrison was killed in an automobile accident. Even though she is not with us today we still count her as a part of us. Peggy was the life of our class. With her, there was never a dull moment. She was sweet and cheerful. She was never down and always trying to cheer others. We would like to show our fond memories by dedicating this page to her. Peggy, a dear friend of many, will always remain in our thoughts, never to fade away. Classes Yesterday’s child has grown up and gone, Leaving the knowledge of today. All of these were present at the East Central Ballroom on April 14. Each guest was greeted at the door with an aloha and a lei. After the banquet a prom was held.
