Semor Class H1story ln September 1953 the storv of the Class of I959 began Xmong the lnttlc freshmen who entered Stratford llall wlth trepldatxon that vear were two of our present members Xlacon Clement and Xlarv Grubb -Xnd it was an eventful v ear for both g1rls' Xlary was the class treasurer and she also plav ed on the llall basketball team Appreclatlon of her beautv was evinced bv her election to the Christmas Court her nomination as an Iris Queen candidate and her election to model ln the Fresh man Fashion Show Xlacon served well as treasurer of the Danvllle Club and as vlce president of the Daughters Club Xll were pleased at her electlon as a Valentine Court Prlncess And both Xlary and Xlacon had parts in the Christmas Nativity bv our sophomore year, the class had grown a little then including Sally Talmage Lv nela Stuckey and an Gardner Xlary Grubb was elected to serve as standard bearer The athletic ability of our class was indlcated by the par tlclpation of Xlary and Xlacon on the hockey team and by Nlary s performance on the basketball court an and Macon felt qunte honored at I'CCClVl1'1g blds to the Blazer Club, of which Xlary was treasurer an was made a member of the unlor llunt Club, and later ln the year she became a Senlor Hunt Club member Xlacon who was secretary of the Dramatic Club that year dld well ln the sprlng play The A lght o anuarv 16th and both she and Nlary had parts in the Natnvltv Xlacon also held the office of president of the Daughters Club ln March, our class was quite thrilled when Xlary our candldate for lrls Queen, won And our pride knew no bounds when later nn the spring she was elected to the Xlay Court By the fall of I937, our class had grown bv leaps and bounds, for we now had thirty nme members xvlth an as presxdent, Xlacon as vice president and Xlarv Grubb as standard bearer we were off to a good start Our first great triumph came on October Day when our class song won first place and our Partlclpatlng for our class in the fall play Time Out or Cznger were 'Xlucon Clement who had a leading role and 'tn Gardner Xlacon was lnltxated into Delta Psi Omega, and in the sprung an was also presented wlth a bid 'Xt Christmas Xlacon plav ed the part of oseph in the 'Nativity in which Xlarv and an also had roles Nlacon again had a major part in the sprmg plav L1 e .wth Uothfr and she later gave a beautiful performance ln a skit Sunny llormng During this vear, Xlarv Grubb serv ed as vice presldent of the blazer Club and happy initiates from our class were Stuckey lllhan Bentzlnger, Augusta Terry Nlary Sweaney and an llamilton Representing us on the llall hockev team were Xlary Xlacon, Bennv, an Gardner and Stuckey who was co-captain lrennv was co-captain of the White hockey team On the llall basketball team Stuckev Sweanev Benny and Lyn king plav ed with Xlarv Grubb and an Gardner as co-captains l'he umor llunt Club was glad to add Swemey and 'Nancy Renfrow to lts membership Cheerleadlng gave a colorful aspect to our varlous school sports, cavorting on the sxdelxnes and urging us on our wav were -Xugusta and Pat Coulter Throughout the v ear, we had several members of the class serv mg as oflicers 1n v anous clubs lieckv Rawls was secretarv of the Chrlstxan kssoclatnon Xlarv Svveanev was treasurer of the Daughters Club and an Gardner was president of the Senlor Hunt Club Some of our members also gave evidence of outstanding muslcal abxlltv We were greatly pleased with lnna Bird Daniel s talent at the piano She recelv ed a superior ratlng ln a muslc festnv al, won second place ln the vnrgxma State Xlusic Concert, and gave a beautiful recital for the students and facultv at Stratford ln the spring Beckv Rawls sang a leading role in the student opera Along llterarv lmes an Gardner was chosen to be a member of Quill and Scroll The pulchritude of our class was recognized ln manv wav s At the Polnsettia Ball 'Nlary Grubb was our representatlve on the Queen s court, while Diane VK allof dld us proud as a dancer in the figure We were dellghted to have Augusta be our Valentine ID the court for the Sweetheart Ball And agaln we were very thrnlled when Nlary was elected to the Xlav Court Pat Coulter was a page in the Nlav Day fest1v1t1es lhe year was coming to a close But we stlll had the un1 Jr Senlor lianquet over whxch we feverishly slaved under the able supervlsnon of Becky as chairman XVe hated to see une approach but we knew that wc would return ln the fall f r our last and best year September 1958 began our semor year Now numberlng thirty five members we elected Nlary Grubb as presldent of the class Stuckev vice president, Augusta, secretary Anna Bird treasurer, and Xlacon, standard bearer The Hall build mg presldents were an Gardner for Stratford Hall Nlary Sweanev for lrls Hall, and an Hamllton for New Hall For the second v ear our class song won first place on October Day We were happy to have members of our class serving as Blazer Club officers Stuckey as vice president, Nlacon as secretary and 'Xugusta as treasurer Dianne Catherine Hull I llzabeth Chambless and Pat Coulter were received into the club ln the December 1n1t1at1on Co-captain for the lVh1te hockey team was Lynda Stuckey and playing on the llall hockey team were Benny, Stuckey hlacon, Xlary Grubb Sue Lumbard Annette ONeal, and 'Nlary Sweaney wlth an Gardner as one of the co captains On the basketball team were Bobble Love Stuckey Lyn King, and an serving as co-captains were Mary Grubb and Sweanev Carolyn ones and Pat Coulter became members of the umor Hunt Club Added to the cheerleading squad were Sue lumbard Dlanne VVallof and Anna Bxrd and vice president respcctlvely of Delta PS1 Omega Gardner, Charlene PhllllpS and Pat Coulter partlcnpated ID the fall plav Th: Wmflow Boy and although a heavy snow cancelled the presentation of the lNat1v1tv we felt certain that 'Xlacon would have been a beautiful Xladonna Xlembers of our class indicated a variety of lnterests during the year The lnternatlonal Relations Club ln which Xlacon held the vice presidency, added two seniors to its number ulie Soltero and Carolyn ones Nlacon was also president of the Daughters Club for the y ear, an was president of Quill and Scroll Stuckey was Hall fire chlef, and Anna Bird was accompanlst for the Choral Club The Senlor Class sponsored the Pomsettta Ball shortly before Christmas We were verv proud of our lovely court, relgned over bv Queen Annette O Neal wnth Augusta serving as her maid of honor Dianne Pat Coulter and Becky per formed beautlful dances 1n the hgure For the Valentlne Court we chose Dlanne to be our repre sentativ e It was a proud moment for all of us when Stuckey was chosen as mand of honor for the Nlay Court Other lovelv representatlv es from our class chosen for the court were Nlary Grubb Augusta Dianne Annette, and 'Nlacon And so our final year IS drawing to a close YVe have had both happy and sad times here and 1n
