At 6:30 P.M. the Seniors, Juniors, Board members, and wives, Faculty, Secretaries, and Custodians, en- joyed a delicious dinner in the cafeteria. The meal was prepared by the mothers of the Juniors. After dinner, Larry Witte, Master of Ceremonies, introduced a group of Junior girls to sing. Their selections which helped carry out the theme of the evening, were This Nearly Was Mine and Isle of Capri . A welcome speech was given by Steve Rowland. Verona Fischer read the Senior Class Wills. DeWayne Vought gave a speech of Thanks from the Seniors for the work they had done for the beautiful Prom and for the years past. Karen Geary read the Senior Class Prophecy, and Mr. Harman gave the farewell speech to the Seniors. 58 At 8:00 P.M. the group progressed over to the gym for the eagerly awaited moment, to see what the theme was and how it was carried out. Paradise Island was the theme. The Juniors worked hard to transform the gym into a very beautiful Paradise Island. The entrance to paradise had a planter box made of bricks, filled with walnut sawdust and artificial flowers and vines. Two bamboo curtains were placed on each side to leave the narrow doorway. Several real and artificial green plants were placed throughout the gym to give the effect of a South Sea Island. In the center of the floor was an oasis with a small pool of water, several flowers, clumps of grass, and three large palm trees. The revolving colored lights gave beautiful shadows of the oasis onto the huge sail. The punch table was located inside a grass hut which the Juniors had made by tying bunches of buffalo grass together and fastening these to a framework. At the north end of the dance floor there was a large real sailboat with a 100 square foot mast. On the concrete walkway around the gym floor there was a layer of sand with seashells and drift- wood. At the south end, there was a canoe, and several straw hats and leis. Dancing was made all the more enjoyable by the fabulous band, The Comets from Sedalia. We all enjoyed the Prom and Banquet very much, thank you Juniors for a job very well done. 59 SENIOR TRIP TO COLORADO Thirty-nine happy, excited Seniors and two sponsors left Stover at 9:00 P.M. on May 6, 1966. Our bus was from Continental Trailways. In Kansas City we had an hour's rest stop. There we had time for a late snack. Then we went on to Junc- tion City, Kansas where we changed bus drivers. Our bus driver's name was Jack Miller. We all boarded the bus and TRIED to get some sleep. (Our friendly tour directors, Pat Wehmeyer and Judy Nelson, saw to that!) Bright and early Saturday morning we stopped in Colby, Kansas, and ate breakfast. We then went on to Denver. We arrived at the DeVille Motel at 1:00 P.M. Some of us went swimming while others went on a tour of the city. Saturday night was our free night so some went to the show, and a few of us managed to go to Elitche's Gardens, Denver's famous amusement park. Sunday morning we were all up early and left the motel at 8:30 A.M. for a six hour tour of Red Rock Ampitheatre, Look Out Mountain, and Central City. At Look Out Mountain we saw Buffalo Bill's grave and museum and at Central City we had a chance to see an old Western town like it really was in the gold rush days. We spent our time at Central City shopping for souvenirs. When we got back to Denver, we checked out of our motel and left for Estes Park. We arrived at the Meyers Black Canynon Ranch at 4:45 P.M. Because of the weather our chuck wagon supper was called off so we had a delicious turkey supper instead. After supper we walked to Estes Park, which was about a half mile away, and went shopping and to the show. When we got back, some of us went swimming in the heated indoor pool and others had a card game going in the lodge. Monday morning a few of us managed to get up early and went into Estes Park for breakfast. While we were there we went shopping and some of us, including our bus driver and sponsors, rented bicycles. In the afternoon, we went horseback riding while others went mountain climbing or spent their time in the lodge. Monday night because of the rain we couldn't have our weiner roast outside so instead we had it in the lodge at the fireplace. About 8:00 A.M. we went on a hayride. It was cold but alot of fun. We left the ranch at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday to start our trip back home. We ate our noon meal in Estes Park and stopped for supper in Colby, Kansas. About 8:30 P.M. we reached Hays, Kansas, and checked into the Vagabond Motel. At 8:30 A.M. Wednesday morning we left Hays, Kansas. We had an hour in Topeka, Kansas, to eat din- ner and shop. Our next stop was at 4:00 P.M. when we reached Kansas City. Around 7:00 P.M. we pulled into Stover and said good-by to our bus driver. This was very hard to do since we all liked him so well. We, Seniors, would like to thank everyone who helped make our trip possible but we would especially like to thank our sponsors, Mrs. Kuehl and Mr. Steinmeyer, for their helpfulness and patience all during the trip. All of us had fun and we are sure that this was a trip we'll never forget! Thank you. 60 61 HONORS CONVOCATION PERFECT ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATES--One Year: Linda Capps Patricia Conner Rita Ehlers Claud McCollum Karen Meyer Lenora Monsees Bonnie Myers Judy Oehrke Harvey Pendleton Louis Silvey Darrell Vansell Linda Vought Ben Werner Mae Allee Kathy Calton Barbara Fischer Mary Hudson Violet Kerksick Beverly Kieffer Carolyn Stucker Dianne Wahlers Connie Carver Doris Case Marilyn Crocker Mary Alice Monsees Kathyrn Marriott Linda Whitesell William Brunjes Emma Jeanne Krull Preston Moore Ralph Ornes Ralph DcWayne Vought FOUR-YEAR PERFECT ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE AND AWARD Joyce Ehlers Verona Fischer Virgil Holsten Charles Leiby Larry Oehrke VALEDICTORIAN: DeWayne Vought SALUTATORLAN: Ella Calton SCHOLARSHIP MEDALS: Senior Junior Sophomore Freshman ALL SCHOOL MEDALS: Carolyn Irene Young Karen Lea Geary Kathy Sue Calton Roy Lorenz Ehlers Citizenship Ella Calton Activities Carolyn Baughman DEPARTMENTAL AWARDS: Girl Athlete Boy Athlete Typewriting Shorthand Commercial Dramatics Music Vocational Homemaking Mathematics Science Social Studies Industrial Arts English Ella Calton Ed Eddings Connie Carver Janice Fischer Judy Nelson Joe Lohnes Linda Cooper Carolyn Baughman DeWayne Vought Karen Geary Kathy Calton Sam Walters Ella Calton AMERICAN LEGION SENIOR CITIZENSHIP AWARD: Carolyn Irene Young YEARBOOK EDITOR TATTLER EDITOR William Howard Brunjes Carolyn Baughman Joyce Ehlers BETTY CROCKER AWARD MOBILE HOME AWARD MUSIC DEPARTMENT: Carolyn Baughman Linda Cooper Violet Kerksick Lenora Monsees Joyce Tietjen LETTER WINNERS IN ATHLETICS: BASKETBALL Ed Eddings Bill Brunjes Merl Wilson TRACK (BOYS) Ed Eddings Gerald Schlomer Larry Franks Russell Barbour TRACK (GIRLS) JoAnn Heimsoth Ruth Stanley Carolyn Stucker Carolyn Crocker VOLLEYBALL C arolyn Young Ella Calton Judy Nelson Connie Carver SOFTBALL Ella Calton C arolyn Y oung Connie Carver Debbie Self Ted Koester Steve Rowland Howard Hendrix Jim Capps Bill Brunjes Preston Moore Wendall Thomas Barbara Fischer Verona Fischer Ella Calton Connie Carver Debbie Self Lois Avey Marsha Cooper Verona Fischer JoAnn Heimsoth Kathy Marriott Joyce Tietjen Karen Geary Ann Fischer Janice Fischer Janice Fischer Marsha Cooper Barbara Fischer Earl Wilson Doug Kroeschen John Taylor Karen Geary Livia Dirck Ed Eddings Bob Zurmiller John Taylor Ronnie Avey Doug Kroeschen Sam Byler Marsha Cooper Debbie Self Mae Allee Violet Kerksick Pam Palmer Joyce Tietjen Linda Whitesell Barbara Fischer Linda Whitesell Neidth Brunjes Linda Thompson Carolyn Stucker A TEAM CHEERLEADERS Carolyn Young Livia Dirck Debbie Self Connie Carver Ann Taylor Pat Wehmeyer MISSOURI FEDERATION OF WOMEN'S CLUBS AWARD:.
