Twenty-seven happy energetic Seniors and three wide-eyed sponsors left the Stover gym at 6:30 p.m. on April 30, 1965. Happily we crowded ourselves and all our luggage into a Stover bus and headed for Rolla, Missouri. We boarded our MK 0 bus at Rolla and met our bus driver, Harry Harrelson. In St. Louis, Missouri we met our tour director, Mrs. M. Dawson. We went through Indianapolis, Indiana, the home of James Whitcomb Riley in Green- field, Indiana and Richmond, Indiana, the school bus manufacturing capitol. We ar- rived in Columbus, Ohio about 9:15 Saturday morning and saw the capitol. We checked into our hotel, The Pick-Fort Hayes. The afternoon was spent sleeping or shopping in downtown Columbus. Sunday morning we were called at 5 a.m. to get ready to depart and head on into Washington, D.C. We checked into our rooms and unpacked, only to realize that we would be moved into a hotel in downtown Washing- ton. That night we went bowling. The night ended well even if it did seem a bit too short. On Monday we packed again and set out for a long day of sight-seeing. We saw: Washington's tomb, Mount Vernon, Lincoln Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, Lee Mansion, Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Kennedy's Grave, the memorial to the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima, home of George and Martha Washington on the banks of the Potomac, National Archives Building, the new Smithsonian Institution, the Wax Museum, the Capitol, and Library of Congress. Tuesday was another long day filled with visits to: the Bureau of Printing and En- graving, New Senate Building, rode the Monorail car, toured the Washington Monu- ment, Supreme Court building, saw the Jefferson Memorial, FBI Building and Treasury Building. We ate lunch in the House of Representatives cafeteria, visited Representa- tive Ichord's office and toured the Smithsonian Institution. On Wednesday morning we left D.C. and headed back for home. We arrived in Col- umbus, and checked in at The Pick-Fort Hayes about 5:30 p.m. On Thursday morning we were really on our way home. We arrived in Indianapolis about 11:30, saw the capitol, and ate lunch in a cafeteria. Then we went out to see the speedway, which was something none of us will ever forget. We arrived in St. Louis about 7:15 where we said good-bye to our tour director. We arrived in Rolla about 9:30, loaded the school bus, and headed for Stover. 71 JUNIOR SEMOR BANQUET PROM 1965 On May 14, 1965, the Juniors and Seniors of Stover High School gathered in the school cafeteria. The girls dressed in their formats and the boys in their dinner jackets and trousers. All waiting to cat the delicious food the Juniors had prepared. The cafeteria was decorated in pink and white with pink and white candles burning on the tables. Music was furnished by four Junior girls, Judy Nelson, Carolyn Young, Nancy Boc- schen, and Carolyn Baughman. They sang Catch a Falling Star and Stairway to the Stars. Then the Senior wills and prophecies were read, following that everyone en- joyed having their memory book signed. At last the time came and we walked over to the Auditorium to sec the Prom decora- tions. The Seniors were longing to see how it was decorated. The theme was Ren- dezvous of the Stars. There was a beautiful winding stairway to an imaginary wall. A picket fence was around the inner gym floor with card tables around it. The Notations were on the stage under a pyramid staircase with a picture of a boy and girl at the top of the stairway. The band was very good and everyone danced until their sides ached. At 11:00 p.m. the Notations played their last number, there were still many kids there hoping the night would never end. The Prom and Banquet were both a big success and everyone enjoyed it very much. 72 Class Flower: Blue Tinted Carnation Class Colors: Blue and White Motto: There is no map which shows the road to success; you must make it yourself. inner.
