THE REFLECTOR 1959 VOLUME 14 MORGAN COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT R-l STOVER, MISSOURI ECHOING HALLS Come walk with us down the echoing halls of Stover High School. Yes. Stover High has echoing halls. Listen carefully as we go and you will hear them retell the story of the year just past. For those of you who are a part of that story, the echoes will be very distinct. As we go. listen for the laughter and conversation of the friends we knew, the mad scramble and the confusion between hours as we tried to get to classes before the last bell, the scratching of pens, the slamming of books and the audible sighs as we settled down to learning. The final bell of the day which for some meant freedom, for others homework. It was all a part of the school year. Yes, come walk with us down the echoing halls of Stover High School. In this book we try to catch these echoes and put them on paper so they will never be lost in the din of passing time, but will echo in our memories forever. HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY i Standing JESSE E. PUTTING ON MAKEUP 59 BLACKEYE AND ALL JUNIOR-SENIOR BANQUET AND PROM On May 1, 1959 the Juniors were host to the Seniors at the annual Junior-Senior Banquet and Prom. It was a delightful evening com- mencing with the banquet at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sto- ver. The theme Rendezvous of the Stars was featured with a large star and rockets. Streamers also arrayed the scene. The wait- resses, dressed in soft pale blue dresses with stars suspended from the waist added to the atmosphere. The Juniors supplied entertain- ment by composing groups to sing, and Mr. Danny Geotze was toast- master. After the banquet the group moved to the Gymnasium, which was decorated by the same motif. The Starlighters from Se- dalia provided music for dancing. 60 Leaving SHS early Friday morning SENIOR CLASS TRIP The Seniors left siover on Friday morning, May 8th, for the annual outing—Destination, Nashville, Tennessee, and Mammoth Cave, Kentucky. Thirty-six seniors made the trip, accompanied by Sponsors, Mr. Jesse E. Walters, Mrs. Evelyn Alpers, and bus driver, Forrest Parker. The Friday trip included a scenic drive through Southern Missouri, with rest stops at Waynesville, Missouri, Alley Springs State Park for lunch and Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Interesting sights were Fort Leon- ard Wood, Cotton Country, Cairo, Illinois, and the Mississippi-Ohio River Junctions. We stayed that night at Oadwood Motel, Paducah, Kentucky. Saturday—a visit to Kentucky Dam and Lake, Historic Old Home of Andrew Jackson, The Hermitage and into the NOEL Hotel in down- town Nashville. The late afternoon was spent shopping and sight- seeing. Grand Old Opry was the feature of most of the group that night. After a sleepless night by most of the group and an early Sunday morning breakfast, we were off to Mammoth Cave, Ky. arriving at 9:00 a.m. and going thru a tour of the cave. Sunday dinner was in Bowling Green, Ky. then a long sleepy drive to Mt. Vernon, Illinois, for a wonderful nights sleep. Monday, homeward bound—into St. Louis, where we saw the zoo, and stopped at a shopping center for lunch and last minute purchases. The afternoon was uneventful with a final stop in Calif, for ice cream. Total mileage—1100. The Hermitage-Nashville Bedtime in Paducah, Ky.
