PRINCIPAL To The Class of 1971: I hope that your experiences at Stoughton High School have made you better and happier people. While you have been members of our school community, you have also been members of the world community. The school presented such matters as curriculum, scholarship, extra-curricular activities, and people. As members of the world community, you were exposed to war, politics, violence, and uncertainty. But all of these things change. Even though change may not solve problems, it will cause you to think. In doing so, you will criticize policy. Again, you may think positi- vely. The world can be beautiful— if you will contribute and not mind a touch of misery now and then. We do have controversy. If you will study the problems, try to envision the issues from all points of view, and always do your best, you should have no regrets. May I wish you happiness and good health in the years to come. Sincerely, PETER J. SPERANDIO, Ed.D. 16

SUPERINTENDENT To the Class of 1971: Not so very long ago education was referred to as a kind of preparation for life as though life really be- gan when the student clasped his diploma in hand. In a very real sense, education is life itself and learning a lifelong process. To be a vibrant, creative, dynamic citizen is to be a person who is intellectually alive throughout the entire developmental span of life. To realize that now is the hour in which one can begin to contribute to his nation and to the society of man is to understand the real meaning of education in a democratic society. Many of you have already established roots of service in tutoring our elementary children and your own peer group, your class projects have in- cluded aid for the needy, and you have manifested a spirit of cooperation which is basic to mutual under- standing and good will. The immediate outcomes of your education as demonstrated by your attitudes to- ward others, your social awareness, and your behavioral performance have very real meaning. Seemingly, there is an important correlation between the citizen you now are and that mature citizen you will be in future years. Trends indicate that as youth is able to assume responsibility in a positive way, still, further responsi- bility will be given. All of you realize that in your senior year, the High School was evaluated and received a high honor in being granted a Continued Membership in the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The Visiting Committee, in its report, expressed high regard for the student body of Stoughton Senior High School. Many members of the Visiting Committee, along with your teachers, made note of the excellent lead- ership role assumed by the Senior Class. You were evaluated in considerable depth and were not found wanting. In closing, may I extend to each of you my personal best wishes for your future success and happiness. Sincerely, JOSEPH H. GIBBONS Supf. of Schools
