SCHOOL COMMITTEE Standing: Dr. Whalen, Mr. Gibbons, Mr. VVinslow, Mr. Rist, Dr. Recupero. Seated: Mr. Hill, Mr. McGillicuddy. JOHN P. MCGILLICUDDY, CHAIRMAN KENNETH A. HILL. SECRETARY THOMAS A. RECUPERO. O. D. S. GEORGE M. RIST FRANCIS E. WINSLOW STOUGHTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE 232 PEARL STREET STOUGHTON. MASSACHUSETTS 02072 Dear Graduates: The Stoughton School Committee extends its sincere congratula- tions to you upon your reaching this milestone. You are successful people in the sense that you have achieved the primary goal of your youth. The next phase of life you enter will present for your consideration many in- justices and inequities which you will have an opportunity to resolve in an effort to make the world in which you live a better place for all people. You will be able to accomplish this because you have started with a background of success in attaining a difficult goal. In your search for personal fulfillment and a happy existence, your future experience will cause you to acquire further intellectual growth and greater mastery of individual talents. You will experience an increase in self confidence which will permit you to make judgments, and produce actions with greater self assurance. It is our hope that you will use your knowledge and talent to explore and develop those things which tend to unite people and transcend those things which divide them. You are entering a stage in your life which requires the accept- ance of adult responsibilities and self discipline if your generation ' s contribution to better circumstances of existence for all mankind is to be significant. We believe you have the strength of character and the integrity to accept the challenge facing you. We pledge our assistance to this end. May Divine Providence favor you all the days of your life. Sincerely , Stoughton School Committee 12

SUPERINTENDENT Dear Seniors: In his memorable poem, The Road Not Taken, Robert Frost underscores one of the major problems confronting today ' s high school graduates. On the one hand there is the oft-traveled road which offers comparative security, few risks, and still fewer challenges; the second road, the lesser-traveled path, is fraught with dangers and uncertainties. However, the traveler on the latter road is the person who usually makes a significant contribution to society. It is my hope as Superintendent of Schools that the Stoughton Public Schools have provided you with the kind of educational experience that will encourage you to seek out social problems, to assume civic respon- sibilities, and to challenge life ' s uncertainties. In short, hke the Man of LaMancha, I hope that you dream the impossible dream. In closing, may I extend to each one of you my sincerest wish for your future happiness and success. Sincerely, Joseph H. Gibbons 13
