mm Superintendent To The Class of 1965 An air of urgency pervades our time. It is present in state, national and international relations, in government, in politics, in business and in education. Ours is a time for action, for new ideas, for bold ventures in new directions. In the years ahead opportunities will abound for you to take part in developing new ideas and charting the course for new directions for our democratic society. A healthy democracy depends on an intelligent and morally upright electorate. As you prepare to enter our democratic so- ciety, you must be ready to contribute to a wholesome, social environment. Your public school education has endeavored to prepare you as a citizen to carry forward the ideals of justice, freedom, fidelity and brotherhood. You must be willing to as- sume your responsibilities and carry forward our American heritage. I congratulate you on your individual and group attain- ments, and I extend my best wishes to all of you in the years ahead. Go forth with hope, confidence and a desire to excel, and I am certain that you will attain your goal and that you will be a credit to yourselves, your parents and your school. Sincerely, JOSEPH H. GIBBONS Supt. of Schools To The Class of 1965 Congratulations on your graduation and best wishes for your future success. This class has distinguished itself in several areas: scholastic achievements; student leadership; journalism; and athletics. Al- though these accomplishments hav e earned honors for individ- ual members of the class, they constitute a collective legacy which your class presents to future classes. The individual ' s success, therefore, contributes to the enrichment of a class tradition and also enhances the prestige of the school. These accomplishments also suggest that success is a pro- cess, not a goal; a way of living, not an aim of life. Just as your individual school successes produced a rich class tradi- tion, your striving for success in later life will promote a better society and, in turn, a stronger America. Sincerely yours, THOMAS WHALEN Principal 9
