ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL ARTHUR L. PENARDI TO THE CLASS OF 1963 President Kennedy states — The strength of our democracy is no greater than the collective well-being of our people. The level of physical fitness of every American citizen must be our constant concern. Never before has physical fitness been more im- portant than it is today. The advances in technology and the complexities of our present day society, de- mand the development of our intellects to their maxi- mum potential. It also requires the physical stamina to maintain this pace. Alert minds within strong bodies are a necessary requisite to create the will to resist the tyrannical forces threatening free men in the world today. As individuals I urge you to continue to participate in healthful recreational activities throughout your life- time, while you maintain your demonstrated academic interests and activities. I extend my best wishes to each of you for your Arthur L. Penardi Assistant Principal DIRECTOR OF GUIDANCE ALBERT C. WILLIAMSON TO THE CLASS OF 1963 Recent scientific, economic and diplomatic devel- opments have been rapid to a degree perhaps never before matched in world history. What are the implications of these developments with reference to the Class of 1963? Initially some of these changes appear to make life more interesting, more comfortable and more bounti- ful in material things. However, other developments seem to make life more complex, and in some in- stances, even precarious. Perhaps, most important, these changes present a challenge to the new graduate for immediate and sus- tained growth and development which often means continuation of education, either formal or informal. Education may well prove to be the salvation of our nation and of our democratic way of life. As graduates of Stoughton High School you may enter this new world, well prepared to accept this challenge in the manner best suited to your particular talents. Best wishes to each and every one of you in this most important effort to meet your responsibilities as a graduate of Stoughton High School and as an Amer- ican citizen. Albert C. Williamson Director of Guidance 9

PRINCIPAL TO THE CLASS OF 1963: Graduation for your class has special significance for me since your entrance into high school and my appointment as principal were contemporaneous. Your individual and collective contributions to the school have enriched and rewarded my administrative duties. For this selfless service to the school, I express my personal gratitude, and, in so doing, reflect the senti- ments of the faculty and underclassmen. Your graduation also has significance for your par- ents and your country. In many instances your parents have made personal sacrifices to insure your edu- cation — your goals, ambitions, and achievements should be of a character to have warranted these sacrifices. Your country needs your talents to the degree that this nation will continue to be the bulwark of world freedom. In closing, please accept my best wishes for your future happiness and success. Thomas J. Whalen Principal THOMAS J. WHALEN 8
