MR. HOWARD R. RANDALL On January 19, 1962, Stoughton High School was saddened by the death of one of its most prominent faculty members, Howard R. RandaU. Those who had the privilege of working with or studying under him were appreciative of his manly character, his kindness, generosity, and pleasing personality. To express our love and respect, the Senior Class wishes to dedicate the 1962 STOTONIAN to him. As principal for twenty-four years, Mr. Randall presided over the growth and development of Stoughton High. During his tenure the new wings were added to the old high school building. The student council and student elections were instituted by him, and he was one of the founders of the Hockamock League and the South Shore Principals ' Association. He has also found time to serve the town as a meeting representative ever since the town has had this form of government. Mr. Randall ' s soldierly bearing stemmed from his early experience as a Ueu- tenant of infantry. In World War I he fought in two major engagements. Yet, it is doubtful that any of his students will remember him as anything of a martinet. He demanded and got strict adherence to his standards, but he wiU be remembered best for his generous and kindly personality.

We must have well-educated men and women to run our country if it is to continue as a successful democracy. In a town such as Stoughton, which is continuously growing, more and more schools must be built to meet the in- creasing demand, and existing schools must be expanded. Stoughton has done an exceptional job in meeting this de- mand. Within the past three years, two new schools have been built: the South Elementary and the Junior High Schools, to supplement the six existing schools, and the Chemung Hill Elementary is in the process of being built. Finally, in our own high school, which has been enlarged twice, a new language laboratory has been built, the library has been expanded, and the scie nce depart- ment has added many new facilities. We, the class of 1962, wish to thank the citizens of Stoughton, the School Board, the Administration and Faculty, and all those who have made our school years in Stoughton so profitable and en- joyable. 2
