As each of you depart from Stoughton High School and you set your course of life, it is mv earnest hope that the principles of good sportsman- ship and active citizenship will always be with you. WILLIAMSON Graduation from high school in the year 1960 should stimulate in each of you sentiments of grati- tude and concern. Gratitude must be felt because it is a privilege to enter the world of work or the world of higher edu- cation at a time when new developments in the fields of science, economics and the humanities make liv- ing, learning, and working an exciting, rewarding experience. Concern, also, must accompany this gratitude, be- cause with these new developments come new respon- sibilities for the new citizen — the new adult. Never before in the history of our country has the weight of the future fallen so heavily on the shoulders of our young people. It is our hope that your high school training has equipped you well to accept the challenges of citizen- ship and fruitful living. The culminating activities of your high school career are appropriately termed, Commencement Week. It signifies an entrance Into a new world of ideas and experiences — educative, moral and civic. It is fallacious to assume that education is a terminal project, measured by so many years in certain institutions. Education is a depository of ideas comparable to a personal bank account.
