Mr. Thomas J. Whalen TOWN OF STOUGHTON December 23, 1959 Seniors, Class of I960 Stoughton High School Stoughton, Massachusetts Dear Class of I960: To the Cla success. ;s of I960 I extend my sincere hopes for your future If I were to admonish you that your education was beginning such a statement would be considered ludicrous and inane. The culminating activities of your high school career are appropriately termed, Commencement Week. It signifies an entrance Into a new world of ideas and experiences — educative, moral and civic. It is fallacious to assume that education is a terminal project, measured by so many years in certain institutions. Education is a depository of ideas comparable to a personal bank account. Educational deposits accrue years of fruitful living. Skimp on your educational investment and your insight of the world will be appreciably diminished. Principal Principal

To the Class of I960: It Is significant that as members of the Senior Class of I960 you not only cross the threshold of your education but also cross the threshold of a new decade as well. Our history seems to run in decades, each with its special coloration. The beginning of a new life in a new decade should be an important event. It can provide for you special opportunity to take a reckoning of your bearings and setting of your sights for the future. As a mature person you might well take inventory for this may provide for you an ideal opportunity to make changes or even beginnings in your lives. Many things will happen in the Sixties about which you will have little to do or say; howevpr, there will also be many opportunities for you to make a contribution for the common good. I congratulate you on your individual and group attainments, and I extend my best wishes to all of you in the years ahead. Your public school education has endeavored to prepare you for active participation in our democratic society. Your contribution will depend upon your interest and willingness to be a responsible, active citizen of a community. You must be willing to assume freely your civic obligations and responsibilities. In conclusion, I admonish you to participate with enthusiasm and perseverance striving to be a credit to yourself, your parents and your school. You are fully equal to the demands that life will put upon you if you will face them with goodness and courage. Best wishes in your pursuit of success and happiness Mr. Joseph H. Gibbons J Joseph H. Gibbons Supt. . of Schools 7

Assistant Principal MR. ARTHUR L. PENARDI Congratulations and best wishes to the class of I960. As each of you depart from Stoughton High School and you set your course of life, it is mv earnest hope that the principles of good sportsman- ship and active citizenship will always be with you. Mav success crown all of vour individual endeavors. Director of Guidance MR. ALBERT C. WILLIAMSON Graduation from high school in the year 1960 should stimulate in each of you sentiments of grati- tude and concern. Gratitude must be felt because it is a privilege to enter the world of work or the world of higher edu- cation at a time when new developments in the fields of science, economics and the humanities make liv- ing, learning, and working an exciting, rewarding experience. Concern, also, must accompany this gratitude, be- cause with these new developments come new respon- sibilities for the new citizen — the new adult. Never before in the history of our country has the weight of the future fallen so heavily on the shoulders of our young people. It is our hope that your high school training has equipped you well to accept the challenges of citizen- ship and fruitful living. As you face your new responsibilities, accept our best wishes and our expressed confidence that you will be loyal to the principles that you have acquired from your teachers and associates at Stoughton High School.
