Congratulations and best wishes to the Class of 1957. Your achievement of graduation from Stoughton High School proves to you and the community your ability to de- velop a long range objective and follow through to its final completion. This quality of perseverance will insure a measure of success to your future endeavors. ARTHUR L. PENARDI Assistant Principal Arthur Penardi Assistant Principal To the Class of 1957: As you take your rightful place on the evergrowing list of Stoughton High School graduates, and as you step forward into a new and more complicated phase of citizen- ship and individual responsibility, it is fitting and proper that you take personal inventory at this time. Have you gained as much from your years in school as you could have? Are you the kind of person that you want to be at this stage of development? Whether you plan to continue your formal education or not, your responsibilities seem to be clear. You must con- tinue to strive toward greater knowledge, greater skill, healthier interests, more wholesome attitudes, and a greater capacity for more complete living. It is only in this way that you will be able to maintain your position as a useful citizen and a worthy representative of Stoughton High School. Best wishes for success and happiness. Albert C. Williamson Director of Guidance Albert C. Williamson Director of Guidance

To the Class of ' 57 go my personal wishes for a rich and fruitful life. May each of you have the power to exam- ine critically the issues which confront us as human beings and fight for that which represents truth . In the years which have passed you have been cau- tioned repeatedly to be sure you are right and then go ahead. Though I, too, would encourage you always to find the right way, it is my sincere hope that in the quest for right you do not fear to be wrong. One may question seri- ously whether there ever has been a new invention or a creative idea produced by a man who feared to err. Best wishes always! AARON FINK Principal Aaron Fink Principal To the Class of 1957: As your public school education comes to an end, it places upon you personally the responsibility of self-education. This may be either formal by attendance at other institutions or informal by using the tools which have been provided you during your school- ing to date. In our present world this responsibility is not only desirable but necessary if you are to be a good citizen of our demo- cratic society. Your graduation from high school provides a time for you to ponder deeply as to how you have used the gifts, opportunities, talents and other endowments given you. Political democracy guar- antees to men the right to participate in their government, the right to a hearing before the law, and equality in similar things. The political idea that all men are equal has been carried over to apply to any and all fields. The originators of the political doarines of equally never intended this. Men are not equal in natural endow- ment of brains, in physical strength, in health, or any innate char- aaeristic. Abilities, contributions, and rewards will differ between individuals. Men are guaranteed equality as citizens before the law. Legislative enactment cannot make them equal in other ways. The responsibility of proper use is individual and 1 would urge your most serious and thoughtful consideration of this point. Each indi- vidual is to contribute to the group life and to be respected for that contribution. Your political rights within our democracy are guar- anteed legally. As future citizens you individually must assume freely your obligations and responsibilities. I congratulate you on your attainments and I extend my best wishes to all of you in the year ahead. Feel free to call on us if you think that we can render further service. We hope that we have contributed towards enabling you to take your proper place in so- ciety and that you leave us now realizing the importance of the concept of the worth of individual human beings and the necessity of respect for the personality of others.
