PRESENTED BY THE CLASS OF 1954 STOUGHTON HIGH SCHOOL ] Stoughton, Massachusetts

Page 6 text:

JOSEPH H. GIBBONS Superintendent of Schools To the members of the Class of 1954: Your generation is facing the most serious crisis that any group has ever faced. As young Americans you must have a devotion to the ideals of a Christian democracy. From your public school education you should have a firm belief in the principles of the Declaration of Independence along with a willingness to work for liberty, justice, peace and prosperity for all people. Our schools are the agency of society to bring about such understandings and ideals for the general good. Your home, church, and school have nurtured your de- velopment of moral and spiritual values that are approved in our democratic culture. These values, when applied to your actions, will bring them into accord with acceptable standards of conduct. Our society cannot survive without a moral order. A system of moral and spiritual values is indispensable to group living. This is especially true in a society like ours where the welfare of all depends upon the cooperation of all. As future citizens of our democratic society you must be con- cerned with your personal integrity, honesty and self-discipline. As Superintendent of Schools, I extend my heartiest con- gratulations to each and every member of the class of 1954 and commend you for your personal achievements during your school years. I would remind you to be willing at all times to assume the duties and responsibilities that will be yours as our future citizens. Take an active part in public life and affairs so that you can make a personal contribution to your community. In conclusion, remember always to be grateful to your parents who have reared you with loving care and who have made many sacrifices in your behalf. Your success in life is assured if you will but participate with enthusiasm and perser- vance, striving to be a credit to yourself, to your parents and to your school. ADMINISTRATION To the Class of 1954, I extend my sincere best wishes for continued success and happi- ness. You have handled well the privileges and responsibilities of membership in your class, as well as in your school. In reflecting happily upon your years here, all of us will look for- ward to proclaiming proudly your individual accomplishments of the future. May God bless all of you. AARON FINK Principal 2
