1949 S EMAPHORE CLASS HISTORY In a scheduled room a meeting of the past classes of S. H. S. was being held. As we entered we heard the class of 1949 called forth. We listened and heard in condensed form an eventful history. The reading of chronicle that recounted the events of four happy years of our lives began. It was on this day, filled with great pride and even greater enthusiasm, that we became freshmen of Stoughton High School. After all these years we have to admit that the rumors of initiations facing us, as newcomers, gave us butterflies. In our reminiscing we note that our freshmen dance still ranks tops in first year dances. In memory we recall aur adventurous boys who tried out for football, basketball, and baseball. Our example-setting girls lent their stamina to the hockey and basketball teams. We remember also how much our members aided the Choral and Glee clubs, along with the orchestra. As this eventful year ended, we planned to vacation for the summer. Taking our places again in the fall, with the respect and knowledge gained in our first year, we began our Sophomore year. The first task before us was electing our class officers. Our choice was a good one with Cleon Fobes, President; Marie Ivaldi, Vice- president; Dorothy Delasco, Secretary; and Edward Dray, Treasurer. These four officers led us well through a successful year. The year began with a Sophomore dance that tops all Sophomore dances. In our minds we still see its decorations. In sports our boys were the backbone of the three athletic squads. In hockey and basketball our girls were outstanding. This eventful year ended with our girls gaining high praise with the Rose Song, the high spot in the Class Day exercises. Our first duty as Juniors was to elect our officers. From a large collection of candidates we elected — President, George Howland; Vice-president, Jeanne Russell; Secretary, Dorothy Delasco; Treasurer, Edward Dray. With the guidance of our officers and the various committees we made a great success of our Junior Prom. After much debating we picked our class rings and class photographer. Finally, we attained the rank of Seniors. With all our past sports, campaigns, and activities behind us, we faced the future as stalwart young men and women. After considering the excellent job of administration they had done for us in our plaguing Junior year, we re-elected the officers — President, George Howland; Vice-president, Jeanne Russell; Secretary, Dorothy Delasco; Treasurer, Edward Dray. Our Class Trip, after much debating, was rejected because of the cost it would entail. We then buckled our belts and settled down to the important things ahead. The Senior Reception, Banquet, and Class Day exercises passed and left us in a state of anxiety. This anxiety of course was for the Great day — Graduation. Then it came, and as we walked down the long aisle to receive our diplomas, in our hearts we not only applauded ourself on making that great day possible but also thanked the faculty and pupils. Above all these, we want sincerely to thank Mr. Randall, whose constant vigilance over us has kept us on the straight and narrow path. With these words the class of 1949 bowed out. We must all agree that this class contributed the most exciting and eventful record in Stoughton High School ' s history. 29
