CLASS HISTORY HE scene is aboard the U.S.S. Pawmystonian, the United States' newest timeship. 1951, have just arrived aboard the last four years. There's the XY!e, the class of the ship to review whistle now, which signifies that we are leaving port, ready to re-live the memories of yesterday. As we begin our voyage the scene about us is sud- denly changed. The autumn of 1947, that fateful year in which our classmates came to Stonington High, is upon us. There we are now, climbing the steep hill and opening the doors as freshmen. How frightened we look! On each of our faces is the eagerness with which we are going to face the next four years. Little do we know of the trials and excitement which await us. The boat is moving quite rapidly now and the next glimpse shows our class electing officers. The officers we are electing are: President, Edward Miguel, Vice- President, Bruce Morgang Secretary, Francis Crowleyg and Treasurer, Betty Mush. As the scene changes we are dancing at our Fresh- man party. This is the social event which establishes the freshmen as students of Stonington High. With the remaining months passing swiftly by, the scene is again September and we see ourselves as proud Sophomores taking our place with the upper- classmen in the school. This year is to be even greater than the last. Our class officers are coming into view now and we have President, Lawrence Delaney, Vice-President, Betty Simonellig Secretary, Francis Barkerg and Treas- urer, Bob Gilmore, all selected under the guidance of Mr. Morgan, class adviser. As the days go by we finally hear a buzz of excite- ment among the sophomores. What causes it? Why it's the wonderful Sophomore Hop which has come into view. Those who took part in this event know with pride that it was an outstanding success. The climax to this year is the annual staging of the Competitive plays, in which we are allowed to compete for the first time. Under the able direction of Mr. Connors, we see Flora Mailhot, Anita Di Cesare, Roy Smith, Ronny Brown, and Gerard Noel doing their very best in the play, Cracked Ice, winning the prize for their excellent performance. The ship is rapidly approaching the turning point of our voyage and so it is with little regret and very much agitation that we turn to our year of years as juniors! First, we again view the election of class officers which are: President, Roy Smithg Vice-President, Bruce Morgang Secretary, Nancy Albrog and Treas- urer, Betty Simonelli. We are confident that these representatives will do their very best. Drifting through the first months of our junior year, we find the work hard but rewarding. One of our outstanding classmates comes into view now as we see Flora Mailhot being awarded first prize in the American Legion Oratorical Contest and also the County contest, thus not only honoring the school, but also giving our class a distinction. Moving along we see our school being awarded the Connecticut Class B Championship for the hrst time, Representing our class in this great honor are Robert Gilmore, Bruce Morgan, Kenneth Crandall, Donald Lewis, and Stephen Hreschak. Pride in our class soars immensely as Gilmore is also elected to the all-state tournament team. As the boat goes swiftly along, we at last arrive at that long awaited treat, the Junior Promenade. This affair was arranged under the guidance of general chairman David Dunn. Transported to a beautiful garden via decorations and imagination, we see Queen Beverly Capalbo and members of the court: Nancy Albro, Betty Simonelli, Diane Kelliher, Joanne Fontanella, Ruthie Saunders and Esther Grills. All too quickly this scene has passed away and we are left with pleasant memories of a well done task. Climaxing the voyage is our final year as Seniors. The added distinction of being the backbone of the school is seen in each and every face as we resolutely go about electing our officers: President, Roy Smithg Vice-President, Ronald O'Keefeg Secretary, Betty Sim- onellig and Treasurer, Joanne Fontanella. This scene drifts slowly by and is replaced by hours of busy activity, and here we are planning for the annual Washington trip. Don't we look excited? Of course, and we have every reason to be, after waiting four long years! There's Mr, Foley now, occupied as usual with one of our successful paper drives. And here it is, the scene we have been waiting for -our Senior Prom! There is Ronny Brown, geheral chairman of the committee, and the other members of the class dancing to the music of Blue Moon, in a beautifully lighted gymnasium. Isn't it wonderful? As our ship approaches the harbor, we have a glimpse of the yearbook as it is being assembled. We are striving to create a yearbook which will bring honor to Stonington High School. P -As we enter port the scene changes and it is gradu- ation night. How serious we appear to be! We must have been realizing that our school days were over and new tasks lay before us. At last our wonderful ship is Stopping, and as uve file out one by one, we are overjoyed to 'have had an opportunity to recall some of our happy experiences at Stonington High School. page twenty-two
