1977 LONGHORN 1 Foreword Carefully gathered within these pages are our treasured memories of classmates, teachers, activities, and all that has been a part of active school days . g We hope that as the Stonewall students and especially the Seniors of 1977 flip through the pages of this yearbook that they recall more good times than bad , more class than correction , and more victories than defeats . It has been difficult to put down in words and pictures all our feelings about this year. It is our hope that S in these pages you will find a glimpse of what the year 1977 at Stonewall has meant to you. ANNUAL STAFF - Julie Hall, Mrs. June Scott, Advisor; Debbie Davis, June Fair, Don Mann, Juanita Manuel. Not pictured is Mike Wood. Dedication We, the staff of the Stonewall High School yearbook, are proud to dedicate the 1977 Longhorn to Superin¬ tendent Sybil Stokes and the late Moiselle Stokes whose unselfish devotion to the cause of education has been so effectively felt at Stonewall for the past thrity one years. Mr. Stokes, who is recognized as an outstanding science and math teacher, served as high school instructor and principal for eighteen years and as superintendent for the past thirteen years. During his long tenure, he has produced some outstanding math and science students who have gone on to excel in positions related to these fields. Before her untimely death in October, 1976, Mrs. Stokes had been a teacher in the Stonewall Schools. She began her career as a business instructor, moved to first grade teacher; after a few years in that capacity, she taught business and Spanish, high school level. A tireless worker, she taught a variety of subjects and sponsored many different activities. Both elementary and high school students shared a deep devotion, admiration, and respect for her. Stonewall Schools will truly feel the loss of this dedicated couple who worked so faithfully to give our young people all possible advantages. We wish to take this opportunity to wish Mr. Stokes the best of everything in his new position. 3 Board of Education Mr. Royce Sliger, Mr. Bob Curtis, Mr. Wayne Henry, Mr. Donald Teel, Mr. L. M. Sandy. Superintendent Once again I wish to express my thanks to those responsible for the production of this annual. I am aware of the time and effort involved in such an undertaking, but 1 feel that those involved will ben¬ efit from the experience . This edition will mark my termination with the Stonewall School system. I have had many pleasant years here and my love for those students 1 have come in contact with will never end. I carry only good feelings for Stonewall as I take leave . To the seniors of 1977, I wish the best of luck to each of you . I hope the memories you carry with you will be as pleasant as the ones 1 carry with me . Sybil Stokes 4 High School Principal Thanks to those whose efforts have made this yearbook possible . It is my desire that we have offered you, as students, the proper environment, opportunities, lead¬ ership , and guidance conducive to a good education. Your success and happiness in life will depend upon how well you apply those things which you have learned . I urge you to maintain good rela¬ tionships with God , country , and fellowman, and desire you all the peace and happiness in the future . Bob Langley Junior High Principal I would like to express my appre¬ ciation to all the personnel who have worked so hard to make this school year a success . To the seniors, I hope we have helped prepare you to be good and useful citizens of our country and community . I wish you many happy days in the years to come . Gerald Stewart Grade School Principal Thanks to the seniors who have worked so hard on this yearbook. We appreciate all the efforts you have put forth to make this book one of the best. I hope in some way, we as teachers have helped you to meet the challenge of life and have helped make it possible for you to say that it is good to live in this country of ours . May we make this a better place to live for those who follow us. Kenneth Murphy 5 MR. SYBIL STOKES B.S. , ECSC. Ada, Okla. M.Ed., O.U., Norman, Okla. Superintendent, Math. , Science MR.
