flame of knowledge ENGLISH The study of our native tongue is a requirement for all students. Mrs. Vera Curley, Mrs. Sadie Marshall, Mrs. Patricia Vann and .Mr. John Downs place special em- phasis on those phases of English which will prove most : helpful to each class. i- SOCIAL STUDIES LANGUAGES Many pleasant hours ere spent in the foreign language classes under the patient instruction of Miss Lydia Risi and Mrs. Gertrude Cariello. Knowledge of these lang- uages enriches our everyday life. Social studies are of vital importance in the school cur- riculum. Through the study of these problems students become better prepared to take their places as respon- sible citizens. These classes are under the capable direc- tion of Mr. Anthony DeTeso, Mr. Timothy Higgins, Miss Mary Hartwell, and Mr. Roger Lomson. 13

They hold aloft the LIBRARY Shelves of knowledge line the wolls of our new building. Under the kindly guidance of Miss Miriam Marsh, unlimit- ed opportunities for educational ad- vancement are offered to every boy and girl. FACULTY MUSIC Our glee clubs under the able direction of Mrs. Gilda Wipperman and Mr. Alfred Todaro provide music for many outstanding occasions such as Carnival Ball and the Spring Concert. ART With graciousness and a charming smile Mrs. Eleanor Boker, our art director, inspires and guides her pupils in many types of art work. The corridors of our new school show much evidence of their talent and imagina- tion. 12

BUSINESS Linder the instruction of Mrs. Margaret Garvin, Mr. Clark Richardson, Miss Naomi Kaplan and Miss Anna Regish, pupils get a sound background in commercial subjects which becomes invaluable in the business world. MATHEMATICS We discover a world of figures, numbers and unknowns with the aid of Mr. Elba Carrier and Mr. Chester Jordan. ht our c a n d I e s SCIENCE Our new and well-equipped science lab makes it easier to understand the mysteries and fascinating facts of science which are brought to light under the able direc- tion of Mr. William Miller and Mr. Robert Millett. 14
