This year we had a hard-working team which showed brilliance on occasion but lack- ed the final impetus to win. The able co-cap- tains, Dick Whitney and Butch Knight, were the spirit builders on the club and were outstand- ing in actual play. Although the season was unsuccessful as far as wins went, the boys who participated gained much from playing. Ed Conklin was the manager. The seniors who did their part in the line were Tommy Gilmar- tin, lim Sullivan, Bill Kenney, Bill Canavan, Bob Shanks, Paul Bartlett, and Jim Breagy. Those in the backfield were Warren McCarthy, Bob Morse, Dick Sawin, and Ted O ' Connell. FOOTBALL SQUAD First row: P. Berrini, P Griffin, I. Fleisher, W. McCarthy, B. Canavan, Co-Captain R. First row: R. Mathewson, C. Rotondi, C. Sprott,. J. McDermott, R Barney, R. Heerter, F. Chambers Second row Mr. Millett, D. Simpson, L Voqler, T. Gilmartin, D Brown, A. Mundo Built around a nucleus of five seniors, Coach Millett ' s hockey team was picked in pre-season polls to win the G. B. I. League crown for the second time in as many years. The boys lived up to early season predictions and by putting on a spurt in the last half of the regular season were able to tie Arlington for the League Championship. The deciding game was the last one of the season when the S. H. S. puck chasers met Arlington and wen the championship game by a last ditch goal in the final twen- ty seconds of the third period. Five boys chosen to represent Stoneham in fhe post- season All-Star contests were Bud Chambers, Dick Heer- ter, Bob Barney, Bob Knight, and Charlie Sprott. Warren MacCarthy was the Stoneham representative on the sec- ond team. Stoneham was indeed proud of Coach Miiiett, who was chosen All-Star coach, and of his G. b. 1. Cham- pions. ALL FOR THE G. B. I. OUR HERO!
