his year, SMI'I's Mrs. Mote received the hon- or of being teacher of the year for Dekalb County. i'lt's the highest honor l've ever received as a teacher, states Mrs. Mote. Mrs. Mote has been teaching at SMH for 15 years. At: the beginning of the school year, Mrs. Mote was se- lected as SMH's teacher of the year, which put her in competi- tion with the other schools in De- kalb County. She had to fill out an entry form which asked her questions about her educational background, her philosophy of teaching, her views on educa- tional issues, school and com- munity involvement, and her reasons for pursuing a career in teaching. Mrs. Mote didn't al- ways want to be a teacher. She claims that she wanted to be a research microbiologist, but found that she liked working with young people as compared to working alone in a laboratory.
