Christa Boyett and her friends know how much fun group pictures can be rom is one of the most memorable times of a person's high school career. The dance, which is given by the Junior class as a farewell party for the Seniors, is planned far in advance. The Class of '88 Class Council met over the summer to find a ballroom and begin planning the food for the affair. Most students are not aware of the work involved in plan- ning the prorn, but they know how to enjoy itl Girls generally choose their dresses far in advance and their escorts acquire a matching tuxedo. Prom ,87 was held at Colony Square. Friends and couples let themselves loose to the sound of Silent Cry. Seniors enjoyed the spotlight during the Senior Walk, while under- classmen enjoyed the vast display of food. When the dance ended, party-goers flooded the seventh and eleventh floors of the Colony Square Hotel because these floors were reserved for after-prom parties. Sandi Howard shows her gracefulness while dancing. Last year's winner, Kim Sanders, con- gratulates Jennifer Barfield on winning the title. Jennifer Barfield begins her reign as Miss SMH 1987. any long hours of practice and preparation went into the making of the 1987 Miss SMH pageant, Besides learning their individual routines for the talent competition, the contestants also had to learn the open- ing number routine and make such big decisions as choosing the right gowns and costumes. A great amount of decision-making is involved in the pag- eant itself. There is a panel of judges who not only choose the new Miss SMH, but also the first, second, and third runners-up, and the Most Talented. However, the contestants themselves, not the judges, pick the Most Corigenial. ln the 1987 pageant, Amy Brooks, Tammy Austin, and won first, second, and third runners-up, respec- tively. The title of Most Talented was awarded to Gretchen Wohlust, and there was a tie between Amy Brooks and Kina Alarcon for Most Congenial. Jennifer Barfield was crowned Miss SMH 1987 by Kim Sanders, Miss SMH 1986. 144
