On Saturday, April 23, 1977, seven months of hard work totaled one memorable night when the Juniors, Seniors, and honored guests arrived at the Buena Vista in their formals. The actual beginning of the Prom started in September with the juniors, who began selling magazines to raise money. ln a matter of days they reached their goal of 393,000 and from there went on to reach a super goal of S4,000. l-Iaving enough money preparations were started. The first thing the Prom Committee had to do was select a theme . After much brain racking they finally decided on the theme Reflections. From there the junior sponsors, Mrs. Webb and Mrs. Shaw began checking with the various hotels on the coast for prices on a room for the night of the prom. They could hardly say no when they saw the Pete Fountain Room in the Buena Vista Hotel in Biloxi. The long awaited day finally arrived. For many of the juniors, it was a day of decorating which began early in the morning . Finally all the decorations were put in their places and it was time to go home to get ready for the big night. Many students arrived early anxious to view the decorations, but Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Webb refused to let them in until 8:00. When the doors were opened the students were greeted by the music of Tastee, beautiful blue and silver foil silhouettes, and shimmering, silver chandeliers . For the first time there was a Prom king and queen. After Ricky Bates and Susie Hayden were crowned, they and their court led a dance . Twelve o'clock came all too soong but the night did not end then. Many couples drifted to other places along the coast to finish dancing the night away. The 1976-77 Stone High Prom Reflections will long be remembered by everyone who attended it. 34 Student Life I Prom REFLEC TIQNS With smiles of appreciation sponsors, Mrs. Cain, Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Webb, receive gifts and roses from the Junior Class. The music of the band, Tastee, set everyone in a dancing mood.

THE KING THAT CAME Many Stone High students were granted an audience with a king this year. The young King S . . . g Tutankhamum better known as King ouvenirs are treasured by people who wish to remember King Tut 1 TUT, died years ago but has been revived through the display of his great treasurers at a New Orleans Art Museum. First, the French Club, though warned of the long, long lines, ventured off to New Orleans one school day leaving at 5 a.m. in order to get there when it opened. They made a very successful trip, getting in with no trouble at all. fWith Mrs. Breland's ingenuity- how could they fail? J . The Science Club wasn't so lucky, however, and had to wait in a line of thousands of people for almost 7 homs. Ask them if they didn't get hungry. Not only that, it drizzled rain all day long. But most everyone will say it was worth the hassles to miss a day of school and see this strange king. Another king in the spotlight was the great, well-loved Elvis Presley, who died at the age of 42. Elvis, native of Mississippi, made his mark as the king of rock 'n roll. Loyal fans will mourn hirn for many years to come and music lovers everywhere will suffer the loss of this great artist. Others whose deaths were a shock were Freddie Prinze of ' 'Chico and the Man , T.V. 's Mr. French fSabastian Cabotj and also little Buffy of the same cast. Two oldies, Charlie Chaplin and Groucho Marx, took their leave this year, leaving a vacant spot in the comedy world . lt also seemed funny to end 1977 without Bing Crosby's White Christmas or to begin 1978 Without Guy Lombardo's salute to the New Year. On the political scene, Hubert Hugmphrey, the happy warrior, succumbed to his battle with cancer. Although it's hard to believe that these well-noted people are gone, they have left behind memories that can never be forgotten. Well, not everybody died this year. Andy Gibb came out with the No. 1 song of '77, ' 'l just Want to Be Your Everything! ' ' The best and most popular movies of the year were Rocky and Star Wars , held Over for months at theaters everywhere . One of the most exciting events in South MS this year was the opening of the new Gulf Coast Colosseum in Biloxi. Now Stone Countians will not have to travel to jackson or Mobile to see the latest concerts. Better yet, the juniors and Seniors are looking forward to the prom with greater anticipation because Mrs. Shaw and the prom committee were able to arrange to have the 1977-78 jr. -Sr. Prom in the Grand Ballroom of the Colossetun Convention Center. 36 Student Life! Current Events L , L I r The new music department was really appreciated by everyone especially the music students because now they no longer have to board the bus to go to the Jr. High for classes.
