Stuart Compston Susan Dunnam SENIOR MAIDS AND ESCOR TS At dusk on Thursday students began to gather at the Pickle Field for the Bonfire . Spirit surged higher as people cheered, made human chains and pyramids, and ran arolmd the Bonfire . As the fire began to die down the Tomcat spirit did not. Some lingered around the Kwik Stop to discuss the next day's activides while others went home to spend a restless night filled with the excitement that the Homecoming game always brings. Finally the big day arrived- -Friday- - Homecoming- -Mrs. Webb, Mrs. Cain and several students spent most of the day preparing the Homecoming float while Mrs. Hollingsworth and the annual staff assembled the spirit chains. At 1:30 Mr. Williams and the band gathered outside for the pep rally. Soon the bell rang. Studems crowded between the two breezeways and the cheerleaders arrived on the fire engine. The annual staff then brought out the spirit chains. As the chains were spread across the grotmd it began to look like the Freshmen were Suddenly Mrs. Hollingsworth appeared with another bag of spirit chains belonging to the Seniors. The final tally showed the Seniors winning with the Freshmen second, jtmiozs third, and the Sophomores last. When the time came for the victory cheers, the spirit was so immense t.hat it was impossible to make a decision as to who won the spirit stick. The coaches decided that it was a four way tie among all the classes so the spirit stick was given to the whole student body. After the pep rally everyone went to what was left of sixth period and counted the :minutes until the school day would end.
