However that fact doesn't stop Curt Otjen and Blake Alexander, CLu't and Blake have both been volunteer firemen in Stone County for about two years. To become firemen they had to pass a certain test which lasted six months. After this six-month testing period the other firemen had to vote them in. Four times a year Curt and Blake attend a State Academy in Jackson to learn about fire-fighting. They also meet every first and second Tuesday at the City Hall for local town meetings. When someone calls in to report a fire, the phone also rings in Curt and Blake's home . They deal with all kinds of fires throughout Stone County and sometimes surrounding counties if their help is needed.

EAGLE OKIE H. Mona Clark, a senior, first started riding horses six years ago. After several horses she finally found her true love, Eagle Okie H. , who is a registered bay and white paint. 'Their first two years together were spent at a few local horse shows only because it took Mona that long to teach Okie who was boss. In 1976, Mona joined the 4-H Club and qualified for the SE District Horse Show in Meridian. They had no competition there so they advanced to the State show in Jackson. Here again Okie had no 1rouble as he stood Grand Champion in his division and won the State Championship. Okie also placed highly in shows in Georgia and Texas , Mona has high hopes for Okie this year as they have already repeated their success at District. Because of her age, Mona will have to discontinue her place in 4-H but she will continue to participate in other horse shows. Her first goal is for Okie to win the Regional Championship. If they reach this goal they will qualify for the APHA Championship, which can only be won by placing well in registered shows. Starting in early April, Okie will have 2 1! 2 hours of riding every day in order to be ready for these competitions. We wish the best of luck to Mona and her champion, Eagle Okie H.
