CURRENT EVENTS A small town called Plains has become famous as one of its favorite peanut farmers was elected President of the United States. Jimmy Carter of Georgia is the first Southerner to become president since Andrew Johnson and the days of Reconstruction. Here at home as the congressional race went on, Stone County had visits from both Trent Lott and Gerald Blessey. Lott spoke at the loading platform in town anc Blessey spoke in our own cafeteria. A mock election was held here at Stone Highp however our results didn't quite correspond with the state or nation's polls. With inflation still growing, candy has risen to 2Oc a bar, peop e are drinking less coffee, and twermostats have been turned down to preserve gas. On the entertainment side, Elton John and Aretha Franklin were elected Pop Vocalists of the year and Paul lVlcCartney rocked the nation with the altl song, Silly Love Songs On the T.V. set up in the librar these student watch as Jimm Carter becomes the 39yth President of the United States. Bumper stickers appeared on cars throughout the parking lot.
