Elections . Spirit Chain . . Exams . At 8:15 on lVlonday, Octo- ber 6, 1975, a sleepy group of people entered Stone High. lt was Homecoming week but somehow the spirit wasn't there. lt only took a few activities to get things moving and though the start was slow, the spirit did begin to build higher and higher throughout the week. During homeroom each day the annual staff sold 56 links for the spirit chain. Dance tickets went on sale and the door contest was announced. The court, chosen the week be- fore in tense, close elections, were getting dresses, hats and shoes together for the big night. The football team, band, cheer- leaders, maids, and escorts all put in hours of practice. Schoolwork would have been completely forgotten if not for six weeks' tests on Tuesday and Wednesday. lt was very hard for everyone to keep their mind on studies while looking ahead to the big weekend. One, Two, Three, get on the good foot . . . roared an enthusiastic crowd gathered on the Pickle Field before an unlit pile of wood with a 490 Rebel hanging from the top. After a little coaxing, the wood burst into flames and the bonfire was on its way. The cheerleaders shower the crowd with footballs before Homecoming. 22 The SHS crowd boogies after the Tomcats' victory. Challenge: Finish your stre amer before the stack falls. Homecoming 1975 76 The SHS drummers marched in soon afterwards to accompa- ny the largy numbers of students who were building pyramids, doing stunts, running in circles around the bonfire and shouting cheers at the tops of their voices. Horns, racing engines, lights and shouts of l'll meet you at the fair, brought the bonfire to an end. And many did rush to the county fair, in town for the weekend, to win their fortunes and stuff them- selves with candied apples and cotton candy. Escorted by James Davis, lVIi- chelle Hatten, the homecoming queen, is crowned by Principal Lester Baucum. One of the most beautiful sights on the field is the float carrying the homecoming court. F,
