Elections, Inflation and Sharks' Fireplug painting was the big thing in 1975. To create spirit for the Bicentennial, everyone took a paintbrush in hand and little people appeared on fiery street corner. The state elections captured our TV screens in the fall months. Political rallies were held at the fairgrounds and on Nov. 4th students in American History and American Government were ablefto cast votes for their can- didates. With inflation still a roblem 1 P everything continued to rise in I price. Hard hit students found themselves forking out 606 for a hamburger at the lVlug and gas hit 656 per gallon. Candy and gum couldn't be had for less than 15C and Uncle Sam deman- ded 13C for every letter he sent on its way. lVlusic did its best to keep things calm. Elton John and Barry Manilow were two very popular performers with a string of hits in 1975 and Neil Seda- ka's Love Will Keep Us To- gether done by the Captain and Tenille became the number one song in the nation.
