At 1:30 on any Friday from September to November, the Stone High gym comes alive with noisy, blue jean clad stu- dents, stomping their feet, clap ping their hands and yelling, Go Tomcats! at the top of their lungs. That's the basics of a pep rally. Add a variety of skits by the cheerleaders, stirring music by the band, vic- tory cheers, lots of spirit and you have 30 minutes of fun that always ends with IVlr. Fashions and Fads Fashion, as ever, was an important part of the school year. No one could predict what stu- dents would wear from day to day. Girls walked down the halls in knee length dresses or stood on the breezeway in blue jeans and jerseys. Boys appeared in jeans and overalls or in dressy pants with brightly printed shirts. Feet were clad in platform shoes, ten- nis shoes, or earth shoes and socks with crazy designs. The two most popular fads of the year were mood rings and CB radios. lVlood rings, which change color with your mood, hit the mar- ket about Christmas, and in no time, everyone was either wear- ing one or asking to try on some- body else's! On the highways every car seemed to grow a large CB an- tenna, and instead of saying O.K. , Stone High students be- gan to say, 10-4 . Everyone knew the story of Rubber Duck, Pigpen, and the Convoy, which played constantly on the radio. 16 An embroidered shirt and bandana scarf, big fashion news this year, is worn by Lillian Smith. During football season this year, tie uniform for Fri day was jeans, jerseys, and tennis swoes.
