Anybody Got an Extra Punch? Closed lunch period was a new experience to the students of Stone High and in the weeks before school everyone dreaded it and was deter- mined to get rid of it. But when we found out that nothing could be done and we were stuck with it, closed lunch was accepted and it was dis- covered that life went on even with thechangep That change, though, was slight. Still when you walked into the cafeteria, you checked out what the house special of the day was, red beans and rice or white beans and rice. Then you had to hunt a person with a punch left on their ticket and convince them to loan it to you. You stood in line awhile trying to look very small and hungry so the ladies would heap the food on your plate. When you got back to your place, you found that your chair had disappeared and you had to find another that wasn't saved. And fi- nally, while you hunted an empty chair, your hungry friends grabbed your biggest french fries or that extra roll you had worked so hard or. Lunch was a big part of our day. It gave us another chance to talk, Roberts laugh, gossip plan or study lt broke the mongltony of School: The lunch line grows smaller 12
