The Beginning of the Day The starting point is home- room. There roll is taken and announcements blare from the intercom. At 8:30 bells sound and the halls are filled with clamoring, jabbering, mass con- fusion. Lockers clang and books slam. Students are seen in every direction. Some lean against doorways, others stop by water fountains, some rush across the breezeway, and others try their luck at get- ting through the doors by the rinajchines without being tramp- e . In three minutes the noise moves out of the halls, leaving them relatively clear with only a few stragglers shuffling to the office for late slips.. A day at Stone High has begun! After two classes, stu- dents enjoy a 10 minute break, where they may drink a carton of chocolate milk to ward off starvation until lunch, catch up on the latest gossip, or find out what questions were on 2nd period's test. IVlany days there are bake sales with goodies to ruin anyone's diet. Then at the bell the confu- sion starts all over again as students make their way to their 3rd period class. 10 Late slips are a last resort for Ray Hatten and Eddie Alexander. Bake sales are money makers for the cheerleaders. Here, lVlrs. Rabby, Denise lVlclnnis and Car- men lVliller count their profits. An English test is a big challenge to IVlrs. Hollingsworth's 2nd peri- od class. -

Anybody Got an Extra Punch? Closed lunch period was a new experience to the students of Stone High and in the weeks before school everyone dreaded it and was deter- mined to get rid of it. But when we found out that nothing could be done and we were stuck with it, closed lunch was accepted and it was dis- covered that life went on even with thechangep That change, though, was slight. Still when you walked into the cafeteria, you checked out what the house special of the day was, red beans and rice or white beans and rice. Then you had to hunt a person with a punch left on their ticket and convince them to loan it to you. You stood in line awhile trying to look very small and hungry so the ladies would heap the food on your plate. When you got back to your place, you found that your chair had disappeared and you had to find another that wasn't saved. And fi- nally, while you hunted an empty chair, your hungry friends grabbed your biggest french fries or that extra roll you had worked so hard or. Lunch was a big part of our day. It gave us another chance to talk, Roberts laugh, gossip plan or study lt broke the mongltony of School: The lunch line grows smaller 12
