Slump' Hspim-Ir g Susie 'Johnnie ISTORY In our tenth grade we were finally tog ethe r again, with Mrs. Hal Pegram as our homeroom teacher. During thisyear, we were just Know It All Sophomores with plenty of work to do. To guide us through the junioryear we had Mrs. Mary Young as our homeroom teach- er. Dermot Roope was our Class Pre si dent. We were excited about the Junior-Senior Ba n que t which was given at the Plantation Supper Club. We had a hafd time making enough money, but we finally made our goal by selling Christmas cards, ma g a zine s, light bulbs, and producing a play, The Able Miss Cain. We ordered our class rings in October. They arrived in time for Christmas. To our dismay, someone else needed them worse than we did. However, we received them in March. In June many of the juniors along with the Seniors enjoyed a trip to Florida. On S eptemb er 2, the most exciting year of all began. Mrs. Hal Pegram was our ho me room teacher, Clarence Neal was our Class President. We chose a lovely day to sell ads, and we were- very successful, too. Getting the Memories read forthe press, the class play, May Day-andgraduation- yes, all of this took our time. But it was well spent, for in twelve ye a rs, we really Monk learned many things. Although the hopes and dreams of yesteryear are focused deeply in our minds, we recall many pleasant memories. In 1947 we began our eventful school career. There were so many of us that we were divided into two groups. We were little angels with teacher Angels-Mrs. Hassel and Mrs. Ashby Angel were our teachers. Naturally the highlight of our first year was the Negro Minstrel we gave at Halloween. Our years in grade school were filled with excitement. We had many te a che rs to guide us. We also gained and lost classmates. There was much enjoyment being in operettas and May Day programs. We advanced step-by-step to the eighth grade. We are grateful to Mrs. Richardson and Mr. R i ckma n for being able to correct our mistakes, and set us on the right path for high school. The year was very exciting. We went to visit our Capital City. Also, eighth grade graduation was held. We shall know again in the near future the wonderful feeling we shared the night we received our eighth grade diplomas. As we entered the doors of high school, a sudden change occured. Some of the boys and girls became m e mbers of the basketball team, while others became members of F .H.A. , Glee Club, and Cheerleaders. Grownup was now our tra de mark since we could change classes. Thanks to Mrs. Southard and Mrs. Hamid, our homeroom teachers, we green freshmen soon found our place and settled down to work. . w r i I '6 i W U 0 CLASS PROPHECY As I see my classmates today, January 8, 1974, there has been many changes in them as I knew them in January 8, 1959. Perhaps our mascots, Gail and Ronald, would be interested in reading some of our changes. Since fifteen years have gone by, we should see some rather interesting things. I SUE WESTMORELAND is now the head nurse at Baptist Hospital in New York City. PAUL WILLIAMS, who always had his bets on the Milwaukee Braves, is the pitcher for the New York Yankees. MARY COOK is working as a foreign missionary in the jungles of Africa, teaching the natives. Don is right by her side. JOHNNY WHITE is very busy helping support Sue' and their five little Whites. GLENDA FULP, with her sexy looks, is in Hollywood replacing Marilyn Monroe. DANNY JONES and his wife Carolyn are busy teaching their ten children the business of running their eight Red and White Supermarkets. LINDA VERNON, being so intelligent in school, is now teaching Spanish in a New York college. 1 JOHN WYRICK, who always eyed the girls, is now judging beauty contests. Those in bathing suits are especially in- teresting to him. WANDA ANGEL seems to be handling hubby Dale and their six little Cockmans better every day. ' MITCHELL LAWSON has taken Curtis Turner's position in stock car racing, while his wife, Evon, stays scared stiff. DARLENE RUTLEDGE has become a private secretary for a very large company called John Banner Williams, Incorpo- rated. She is very happy with her work. Q CLARENCE NEAL, the lover of olden days, is still a single man, but he has replaced Rock Hudson in Hollywood. MARTHA POWERS, having the ability to sew, has enough money to retire . CAROL ANGEL, who was such a devil in school, is now raising little Angels. LEE POPE owns a Used Car lot with one of his Kernersville girl friends as his secretary. BETTY HARRELL spends her time at the drag strip racing her Chevrolet. That efficient journalist you hear so much about from Chicago is NANCY LEE PEARMAN. DERMOT ROOPE is now in Reno, Nevada, getting a divorce. He said that marriage was too much for him. The biggest surprise of all is finding out that AUDRIE SELF is the most famous lady wrestler of the year. MARY LOUISE SOUTHARD, now Mrs. Gann, is happy raising a family. You can find DAVID DEAN Working on his hot rod. He has two bodyguards to protect him from the- girls. JOAN MCCUISTON fooled us all. She is the biggest oil Well owner in Texas. The little neat white house you see in Walkertown belongs to LOUISE HOLLAND . She is happily married to Willia m Larrimore. I I CHARLES WALKER is one of the most successful farmers in the United States. He earns eight million dollars a year. PATSY SOUTHERN is helping Larry work on his Chevrolet, if she isn't busy baby-sitting . ELAINE BULLINS, being elected laziest of our group, sits at home doing nothing while O.W. is out working. BARRY MARTIN is happily married to his Zsa Zsa Gabor. BARBARA CASE, now Mrs. Marshall, is a very good secretary. - DANIEL MATTHEWS is still in school studying United States history. Do you believe that in fifteen years that this will come true? Only time will tell! DARLENE RUTLEDGE CHARLES WALKER
