57562177715 0777622 Commander Charles A. Whitmore graduated from the United States Naval Academy and was commissioned Ensign, United States Navy, on June 6, 1948. His first duty station was aboard the USS HAMNER CDD 718D, a unit of the last division of destroyers based at Tsing Tao, China. HAMNER was one of the first ships to leave San Diego for the Korean Confiict.
