X SBIIIDI' Class Tlixsinr I am a notebook and a very well worn one at that Does that surprrse you? I suppose rt does seem strange to start to read a class htstory and the frrst words that confront you are I am a notebook But l m not just any ordrnary notebook I have just been through four of the most unusual excrtrng, and wonderful years that ever exrsted For you see I belong to a senror of the class of 1953 Nowl know I m not makrng myself very clear so I ll start at the be grnmng About the frrst thrng I can remember rsberng carrred one brrght fall momtng by a very exctted and nervous fresh man who was Just entermg Stockton I-hgh School What a trme I had' That frrst year I was treated so carefully All of the math Englrsh ctvrcs and other subjects that freshmen have to take were put between mv covers so neatly I saw many thrngs that year but that was just rt I SAW them and drd not partrcrpate rn many of them Of course, there was the school carmval rn whtch Jean Pyle and Davrd Haralson represented the freshman class and lrttle excrtrng thrngs lrke class partres and extra currrcular acttvrtres but nothrng brg Then came a nrce much needed rest And rn the fall ofl950 I came back to school but thrs trme the hands that held me were steady and very sure of themselves Yes, they were the hands of a sophomore and not those of a lowly freshman There were lots of thrngs that year The camrval came and went agarn wrth Patty Harrrs and l-larry Adams as candrdates rn Englrsh class a school paper was started and at the end of the year there was a short play presented to the student body Yes rt was an excrtrng year and there were even several sophomores who went out for the new sport rn our school football By thrs trme Iwas geetrng pretty worn but I just had to hold myself together for by the fall of 1951 Iwas owned by a Junror Oh that was a wonderful year So many excrtrng thmgs happened Frrst there was a play between my covers The name of tt was One Wrld Nrght It was a wonderful play and what fun we had produclng rt Then the hands that carrred me had on somethrng new Yes rt was a class rrng and rt was truly the most beautrful ever Soon there began to be plans between my covers for a Junror senror banquet Now talk about a banquet that was really one' The theme was Lavender and Old Lace and the Junrors entertarned the semors rn STYLE Then ftnally I was owned by a semor How drgnifred I felt and so many thrngs happened that year There were caps and gowns to order, an armual to publrsh announcements and name cards to decrde on and f1nal'ly that wonderful senror trrp The senror play was Ghost Wanted, and what a play tt was Then at last came baccalaureate and commencement and I was put asrde for a much needed rest Yes, these four years have truly been wonderful ones They w1ll always be remembered and cherrshed by each member of the 1953 semor class And as for me I wtll probably be lard rn some dusty corner of the attrc a relrc of the past But now that you have heard my story perhaps you won t thmk rt so strange after all for me to be tellrng rt be cause you see I am very well qualtfred to tell rt I Just an old notebook of a semor of the class of 1953 .
