The year I95O marked The TirsT winning season aT STockTon High since The inTroducTion oT The K-6-4-4 plan inTo The STockTon school sysTem. One greaT TacTor which conTribuTed To The Team's success was The reTurn oT The name Tarzan To The STockTon High campus. The name helped bring back some oT The school spiriT which seemed To be lacking in The TirsT Two years as a 7AIO high school. AlThough every posifion on The Tarzan Team was well Tilled, There were no TerriTic sTars. The Team ran like a well-oiled machine, and when one player was hurT, anoTher iusT as good was ready To Take his place. There was liTTle diTTerence beTween TirsT and second sTrings. Those gridmen who were sTandouTs during The season include: John Curphey, Ronnie Gahn, and Richard Leary aT ends: Jud SmiTh, Jerry Hellwig, and Freshman Dave Maiheson aT The Tackle sloTs: Clark Jones, Bill Cook, and KenneTh WolTe aT guards: Frank Higham and Bill Brown, cenTers. OuTsTanding backfield men include HalTbacks Kozo Abe, Al Avey, David Janeiro, and VincenT Cowan, Fullbarks John YosT and Doug Hauser and QuarTerbacks Bill Clemens and Paul Erickson. The Cavemen ran Trom a T TormaTion due To Their lighT and speedy backs and Their comparaTively TasT line. The TirsT sTring averaged abouT I6O pounds in The line, and I4O in The backTield.
