I’ll never forget that day as long as I live, July 24, 1982; that’s the day I said good-bye to all of my family and friends in England. That’s the day I left for a whole, new, and wonderful experience. That’s what this year has been to me, and all too soon it’s going to end. However, my memories from will stay with me forever. It’s a great experience being an A.F.S. student, and a very happy one. Although we don’t know how much, we are doing something for peace. My year has been filled with many happy times with my new friends. Stockton is just like one large happy family, and I’m very grateful to you all for accepting me as part of it. Of course, there were lonely times for me too, but with your help these were very few. I’ve made so many close friends in the short time I’ve been here. I laugh at myself now when I think of how scared I was to start school. If I’d known then how nice you all are, I wouldn't have been scared at all. You will always be very special to me. I will never be able to thank the Broshous family enough for accepting me as their own daughter and sister. In the few months I’ve lived here with them, we’ve become very close. I know things will always stay that way between us even when I’m back home in England. I hope if any of you ever get a chance to come to England you will come to visit me. I will try and make you feel as welcome as you’ve made me feel. I’d even let you write a term paper just to make you feel at home. What I’m trying to say is, “thanks Stockton for everything.’ ‘ I know when I leave in June it won’t be forever, and I’ll see you all again someday. In the meantime, I will never forget any of you, and I hope you will always remember me. Keep in touch. B.F.A. The team went 9-0 and captured the conference crown. Led by the rushing attack of seniors Todd Baber and Jay Eastlick, the team was seriously challenged in only two ball games. Sophomore Rick Arand was able to supply the difference with his placekicking in the Galena and Aquin squeakers. In the playoffs for the first time in two years, the Blackhawks were ambushed by Walnut in the first round. The Walnut team eventually advanced to the State Finals. All-Conference honors went to running back Todd Baber, center Brian Dittmar, linebacker Jay Eastlick, defensive lineman Todd Heidenreich, and kicker Rick Arand. The Fresh-Soph team enjoyed a successful season of 6-3. 76 77 £i t 78 Varsity njttnnrp nicnuwca umi HS? tfACriPR %UCDWfIS P|J V. The team was overpowering through the middle of the season in winning 15 straight matches and capturing the Savanna Invitational. The girls’ streak finally came to an end in the Regional Tournament where they were upset by Lanark. Capturing All-Conference honors for the senior-dominated team were Colleen Finn and Mardi Hudson. 83 The Fresh-Soph team suffered through a 2- 14 season but gained valuable experience. Senior Stars Nan Trost Trisha Magee Vicki Molitor 84 Dawn VenHuizen Geri Lynn Schlichting Mardi Hudson Rhonda Ege Sue Magee Coach Campbell Boy’s Basketball B’Ballers Struggle The Boy’s Basketball Team struggled through a disappointing season. Their final record was 10 wins against 14 losses. Brian Brandt was the team’s high scorer while Scott Bolen was team’s leading rebounder. They honored Joe Cahill as “Mr. Hustle, Scott Bolen as “Most Improved Player, and Brian Brandt as “Best Defensive Player. The Fresh-Soph Team finished their season with a record of 8 and 11. 87 Varsity Team Fresh- Soph 88 B'Ball Seniors Scott Bolen Tony Cahill Doug Gille Rodney Dole Todd Baber Jeff Karth Girl’s Basketball Varsity Fresh-Soph Girl’s Enjoy a Winning Season As this book goes into print, the Girl’s Basketball Team is in the midst of an excellent year. Their record stands at 12 wins and 4 losses. The team is led by senior starters Trish Magee and Colleen Finn. Bridget Woods, the only junior starter, has supplied strong play all year. Starting center Sue Magee was hurt early in the year, but seniors Mardi Hudson, Vicki Molitor and Nan Trost have been able to pick up the slack. With Sue’s return and the continual improvement of the bench, the girls seem in fine shape heading into regional play. The Fresh-Soph girls' team, although not boasting a great record, has improved considerably as the year progressed. 91 92 Girl’s Basketball Coach - Mrs. Zwettler Manager - Jodi Larson Trish Magee 93 Wrestling Stocker Qualifies for State! The Blackhawk Wrestlers chalked up another successful season with a second place finish in the Conference Meet and a fourth place finish in a very tough Sectional tournament. The squad boasted three conference champions: Dave Johnson, Jon Stocker, and Merle Norquist. At the Byron Sectional, Dave Johnson finished fourth, and Jon Stocker earned a trip to the State Meet with a hard fought second place finish. The team was captained by Les Bonvillain and Dave Johnson. 94 Jay Eastlick Les Bonvillain 95 Golf '82 Golf 1982 was a rather frustrating season for the Blackhawks. Losing only three matches in conference play, they placed second in conference. At the end of the season, Joe Cahill led all scores with an average of 44.5. Mick and Rick Arand were close behind with an average of 44.8. In other golf action, the Blackhawks placed third in the Pearl City Invitational. Some of the top scores were Butch Magee and Joe Cahill with 44, and Brian Dittmar with a 46. Overall, the Blackhawks played some good golf. In 1983, the Blackhawks will be strength- ened by five returning lettermen: Joe Ca- hill, Todd Baber, Doug Gille, Brian Ditt- mar, and Rick Arand. 96 97 Boy’s Track The Boy’s Track team was made up of mainly under- classmen; there were only two Seniors on the team. The year proved to be a good learning experience for the younger members. One of the highlights of the year was when the team got the Runner-up trophy in the Savanna Fresh-Soph meet. Also, the team got first and second in the Fresh-Soph relays at Forreston. Jace Michael and Leslie Bonvillian placed at the District meet. 98 Leslie Bonvillian was voted most valuable nlaver. 99 Girl's Track 100 The 1982 Stockton Girl’s Track Team started out small and continued to get smaller. Injuries which ranged from pulled muscles and bad knees to appendicitis and skull fractures plagued the team throughout the short season. The veterans of the team helped to carry much of the load while the freshmen gained valuable experience. They helped the veterans in every way they could. In the Galena Invitational, they finished fifth overall, and in the conference they also finished fifth. The team voted Carolyn Randecker captain, and Peggy Blair was voted M.V.P. It was a fun season and a learning season. Success was not measured in the win-loss column but in the individual accomplishments. 101 Horn ecoming ’82 Jay Eastlick Jody Larson Tony Jones Trisha Magee Joe Cahill Peggy Blair Tim Feltmeyer Tammy Eden Brian Brudi Janelle Hughes 102 103 104 105 Junior Prom 106 Karl Lawfer and Roxy Quitno Jay Eastlick and Jody Larson Rodney Dole and Dana Logemann Tony Cahill and Sue Magee Dave Johnson and JoLynn Endress Todd Baber and Elaine Wild Held on April 30, 1982 Class Sponsors: Mr. and Mrs. Zwettler Theme: Our Dream Motto: “Do not follow where the path leads.
