Dean Wait take the helm. In a rebuilding year. Wait led his charges through two tournaments, (finish- ing third in each) The Blackhawks stressed defense and a controlled fast break to post a 16-8 regular season record. They finished second in U.S. Grant's final sea- son with a 11-3 record. Pete Korth standing out as a 6-2 senior held things together, along with 6-0 senior Jerry Brunner, till juniors Gary Timpe and Bill Upmann came of age. Timpe shot beautifully while Upmann killed the boards and intimidated on defense. Kurt King overcame football inclinations to ac- count greatly toward the success of the fast break. Rick Baber came off the bench to loosen a few tight zones with his outside shooting. High kicking Phill Phelps added rebounding strength, as did Doyle Aubrey; and with his superb warmup moves he led the team in that particular category. The all important substitute roles were played by Rick Hill, Greg Thoren, and Delmar Westaby. Brad McKinney gave good seventh and eighth man power. Don Lowe came off the bench in the last regular sea- son game to rip the nets for six markers. The Blackhawks lost four of their first six encount- ers. But from there on out, they killed their opponents winning 14 of their last 18. John- son, C. Steffes, C. Bronkema, A. Knapp. Hello Everybody, I hardly need to introduce myself now, but I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Barbados— my 'Island in the Sun', and also to say a little about my own family. Barbados, the most easterly of all the West Indian islands is 166 square miles in area. The capital and chief town is Bridgetown in the south of the island while the second town is Speightstown, near the northern tip. I am from a small family, only four in number. My younger brother, who is in high school, my mother who is a housewife, my daddy who is a merchant and myself. The question everyone asks is How do you like Stockton? Well, you would be surprised to know that the town in which I live in Bar- bados is smaller than Stockton, so in my estimation, I considered it to be big, until I really saw a big city. It's beautiful here, but I think the most beautiful time of the year is when it snows. This was the first opportunity I had of seeing snow other than in pictures or on television and I really enjoyed my first white Christmas. Thanks to my family and all those who made it possible for me to be here. Thanks to Everybody. 80 From my first utterance of a Luxembourgish word to my last Au Revoir 2 months later, I was awed by the beauty of the country and the love and patriotism that the 300,000 people showed for it. Luxembourg is a small country but it is unique. It has its own language. Grand Duchy, flag, and national anthem, among the castles, fortresses, beer festivals, and dances. I hope someday that I will be able to go back and relive just a little of what I lived last summer. Linda Arnold is Stockton's own delegate to South Ameri- ca as she will be spending one year in Vila Vehla, Brazil as a Foreign Exchange Student. She is living with the Aarao R. DeOliveira family, consisting of her parents, sisters Tania, 21, Rosalinda, 18, and brother Elizar, age 15. Linda would be glad to keep in touch with all Stockton- ites. Her address is: Linda Arnold c o Mr. and Mrs. Aarao DeOliveira Rua Santa Terzinha 506 29100 Vila Vehla, ES Brazil South America 81 82 Sing-a-long with John ne TROMBONES i o r Karen, you're peaking.
