Stockton High School AFS Advisor Mrs. Thomas President Anita Borsdorf Vice-President Kurt Steffes Sec.-Treasurer Kris Cahill AFS Student Irmgard Flamm This year's AFS club was surprisingly large with most of its members interested and active. Many noon hours were spent trying to scheme up new and different money making projects. We held our second International Dinner and sent out Gypsy Baskets in hope of being able to finance an exchange student for Stockton next year. Cindy Rhyner and Kathy Lawfer are the delegates chosen this year to go abroad. Who Is “Fips”? Irmgard with her brother Karl Heinz and her friend Beate. Irmgard Flamm 7802 Merzhausen Freiburg Heimatstr. 4 Germany Touring through the Alps. Hi! I don't need to introduce myself cause you all know me already. Would you be interested in my experiences in the States this year? And how I like it? First, I need to tell you a little about my other life which I used to lead for almost 18 years. I was born in Freiburg; that's a city, just as big as Rockford in the very south of Germany. Freiburg is the capital of the Black Forest area; you remember, the famous Cuckoo Clocks??? You know what it is like in cities. There lots of things happen, and there are many places to go. Then I came to Stockton: the largeness of the country im- pressed me deeply and made me feel so tiny. The houses are far apart from each other. Without a car you would be lost. Yeah, cars are around enough, but what do you do if you are not allowed to drive? (owe to AFS) I often thought of my beloved motorscooter which used to take me almost everywhere. I sold my baby in order to get money to come over here. Time went by and gradually, I got to know people and realized that you can easily be happy without having many places to go. Now, I just love to be here; there wouldn't be anything that would make me go away before June. And this is the effect of all those many nice people i got to know. I'd like to use this chance to say: THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY! ! ! Thank you very much to all those people who care so much about me and gave me a quite new and warm objective of life. Whenever any of you happen to come to Old Germany, you will certainly be invited to come to my place, and I will show you nice things--a trip to all the old, cozy, nice taverns in Freiburg? O, I almost forgot: the Germans are not only sauerkraut-eating and beer-drinking guys, they are real people, like me or perhaps, you. But I under- stand. . ,_I used to consider chewing gum as the life symbol of the Americans. Might this be true??? Bye bye, 5 Student Council SEATED: Bill Heid, Garth Osterday, Jeff Boldt-Vice-President, Kim Lawfer-President, Cindy Rhyner-Sec'y-Treas- urer, Judy McPeek. The only loss came at our own homecoming as two undefeated played. Galena stunned the overflow homecoming crowd by being a 14-8 victor. The next week put die tough Blackhawks against undefeated Aquin at Aquins homecoming. Knowing it was their only chance to stay in the confer- ence race, the boys rose to the occasion by gutsing a 16-0 victory. After that, it was only a matter of rooting for Aquin to knock off Galena, which they barely did to make it a three way tie for first. The Blackhawks worked hard and should be congratulated on their fine effort. This year the wrestling team had a lot in inexperience and wrestled an extremely tough schedule and came through with a 15-13-1 record. Although it wouldn't seem as though there were any good wrestlers on the team at all, they did manage to place third in the district tour- nament and sent five wrestlers to Sectionals. This is the most that has ever gone down and it seems even more im- pressive when four of the five will be back next year and one was a freshman. These four will form a nucleus next year and hopefully and couple of state contestants. Jim Raab, Stocktons only senior wrestler of the 72-73 season of regular meets with a record ox 16 wins and only 2 losses. He missed 8 match- es due to an injury. Of his 16 wins 8 were pins. His overall Varsity record was, for a period of four year, 58 wins 27 losses and 2 ties. His soph- omore year he wrestled varsity at 105 pounds and finished the season with a 15-9-1 record. As a junior he again wrestled 105 his record was 24-6-1. He was the captain of the best lower weight wrestlers Stockton ever had. 28 Three of the four returning lettermen this year were juniors. Perry McPeek who shone last year as a sophomore was ready to go and go he did garnering a 21-4 regular season record and a return trip to Section- als. Layne Bonvillian worked hard and gained an 18- 6 regular season record with 7 of them pins----and a hard earned trip to Sectionals. Dave Wickler was real- ly tough this year with a 24- 1 regular season record and a trip to Sectionals. He really came though this year with 20 straight wins before a single loss. With all three of these boys back next year it looks good. 29 31 ABOVE: Andy Wickler wins?! ! FRONT ROW-T. Mummert, J. Rabb, T. Schlichting, J. Hotze, R. Baber, K. King. SECOND ROW-D. Stadelman, B.
