Senior Class History Our freshman year was launched into Stockton High School by the election of Tom Arnold, president; Jim Vanderheyden, vice-president; Lynne Logemann, secretary; and Ruth Schuldt, treasurer. Gail Coppernoll, Bill Edlin, and Tom Rees were the student council representatives. We took third for our float at Homecoming, and freshman attendant was Donna McPhillips. As sophomores, we started the year under the leadership of Jim Vanderheyden, Carol Vanderheyden, Janet Sipe, and Ruth Schuldt. Margo Davey, George Thomas, and Tom Rees were student council representatives. We chalked up another third place at Homecoming with our float. Lana Schiess was our sophomore Homecoming attendant. We sponsored the coat check and a dance. Our junior year was under the guidance of these officers: Jan Lawfer, Sharon Kleckner, Ruth Schuldt, and Carol Vanderheyden. Lana Herman, George Thomas, and Tom Rees served on student council. Our Homecoming float, Launching A Victory , took third place, and Mary Beth Schwitz was our lovely contribution as junior attendant. Somewhere Over The Rainbow was the theme of the Junior-Senior Prom. Prom Royalty was Jan Lawfer and Ruth Schuldt, KING AND QUEEN. Their court included Tom Rees and Lynne Logemann, Tom Arnold and Sharon Kleckner, George Thomas and Janet Magee, Karl McPeek and Marcia Krupke, Jim Vanderheyden and Ellen Borsdorf. Then we became seniors, stepping on the last stone of high school. We substituted the money- making project of a coke machine in the cafeteria instead of magazine sales. Officers in our final year included Karl McPeek, president; Sharon Kleckner, vice-president; Ruth Schuldt, secretary; and Nancy Huttenlocher, treasurer. Tom Rees, George Thomas, and Chris Gothard represented our class on student council. We triumphed in our last year by taking FIRST for our Homecoming float, Drive Them LOCO With Our MOTIVE . Marcia Krupke was senior attendant, and Ruth Schuldt was the 1970 Homecoming Queen. The Class of '71 proved the trial project of 1:30 dismissal for seniors was successful. Cheerleaders from our class included Carol Vanderheyden, Diana Scheele, Evelyn Skutt, Lynne Logemann, and Sharon Kleckner. We wish to thank those who sponsored and helped our class. The Senior Class Officers 22 Carol Raab was chosen Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow. Karen Dougherty was our Girls State representative and our DAR winner. Bill Wickler, Tom Rees, and Dennis Gage were our representatives to Boys State. 23 Underclassmen Class of '72 S. Abbott R. Allen T. Branthaver J. Bernard T. Branthaver T. Brashaw M. Brunner C. This was the first year for a wrestling conference including Stockton, Warren, Lanark, Dakota, and Galena. In this tournament the Hawks set many impressive records: scoring twice as many points as the 2nd place finisher (122-61); advancing eleven to the finals; taking 9 firsts and 2 seconds; and Larry McPeek was elected team captain, Paul Brashaw most valuable, and Bill Wickler most improved. 63 Results of Polo Invitational Wrestling is just another form of ballet. The theme was carried out by the characterization of the cowardly lion, scarecrow, and tin man. The emerald city served as a background for the crowning. Charles Krahmer and Dixie Wulff crowned Jan Lawfer and Ruth Schuldt prom king and queen for 1970. Their court consisted of Tom Rees and Lynne Logemann, Tom Arnold and Sharon Kleckner, George Thomas and Janet Magee, Karl McPeek and Marcia Krupke, and Jim Vanderheyden and Ellen Borsdorf. The Jimmy Marvin orchestra provided the music. 78 Fine Arts 81 The 1970-71 A Capella Choir consisted of 64 members. They performed Bach's Magnificat” at Christmas, presented a Spring Concert, and participated in both the IHSA Solo and Ensemble and the IHSA Organizational Contest. The formation — a gun?! 87 88 Jim Vanderheyden, Ron Hill, and Dwight Balbach represented Stockton last November in the district band. Ron was also selected to go to All-State Band in February. Many hours of hard practice go into the making of a concert. And in spite of the initial bad notes and countless other errors, the performance moves along smoothly. This year, along with the usual band instrumentation, guitars were added and popular songs were in the concert presentation. A most welcome addition to the library this year were the cassette tapes, some of the most popular being the Beatles' Abbey Road, Let It Be and Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Waters. The assistant librarians were deluged every period with eager students trying to be first in line to borrow a tape player. Also immensely popular are the hit recordings. Several listening stations were also added this year, and one can see several tables of listeners, headsets in place, doing schoolwork while absorbed in the music. Besides keeping track of the audiovisual materials the fifty-five student librarians keep busy in both the middle school and high school centers checking out books and returning them to the shelves, repairing volumes, and making sure the shelves are in order. On a windy February evening, many of the members journeyed to Freeport for a swimming party at the YMCA. As usual, the highlight of the year was the annual trip to Dubuque. Sue Nagel, president; Gloria Gage, vice-president; Karen Mcllrath, secretary-treasurer; and Mrs. Werkheiser, adviser, look over some of the library's new records. Lettermen's Club It is the purpose of the Stockton Lettermen's Club to best exemplify qualities of leadership and sportsmanship both in competition and in their daily lives. In addition to this, the Lettermen's Club often participates in several projects to assist the athletic department and the school in general. The club, this year, donated an activity board and a set of roster boards, in memory of Lyle Schultz, to the school. Some of the other duties of the Lettermen's Club include helping the janitors chalk the football field, hold ropes at the basketball games, and sponsor the annual Class Tournament.
