Advisor: Mr. Charles Baker Dramatics at Stillwater is a matter of serious fun. There is a rising crescendo of pressure from that first time you try out for your part to that fantastic moment of relief and exultation when the final curtain swings closed. The performers rehearse in the six to eight weeks prior to public performance. In the beginning, there is the basic and all- important learning of lines. Following that comes the blocking of stage movements, the development of characters, interaction between characters, the mastering of bits ofaction, and, eventually, the unification ofall into a total performance. Meanwhile, back stage, a hard-working stage crew carries out the always difficult job of set construction. This includes the assembly of fiats, construction of various segments of the set, painting, and, finally, the erection ofthe set on stage. In addition, there are the problems of getting together appropriate props, setting the lights, and finding the right make-up and costumes. Dramatics is a great change-of-pace activity and a real challenge for the student who is not afraid oflong hours and hard work. The pay-offis worth it. 30
