McNeil c u I e s Interest speaks all sorts of tongues and plays all sorts of parts Cationa }{onor Society Members of the National Honor Society are selected on the basis of their outstanding character, service, leadership, and scholarship. Elected by vote of the faculty, the members of the National Honor Society have received the highest honor a high school student can receive. This year they served the school by taking care of pre-school children whose parents were attending Elementary Parent-Teacher Conferences. With Mrs. Butler, their advisor, they set up a tutoring program. Student Council The purpose of the Student Council is to provide a democratic means of communication and coordination among students, faculty, and administration in our school. Elected by the student body each year, its membership consists of two representatives and one alternate from each homeroom. From these, a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer are selected. The elected representatives meet each week to discuss issues pertinent to our school and to find new ways of improving our school. The Senior Band provides music for concerts, parades, and football games. One of their major events this year was the concert which the band presented at Christmas time. Under the skillful direction of Mr. Michael Saetta, band members devote many hours of practice to the band. Each band member receives one credit for his work each year. ?rencfi ( uf) The French Club consists of students who wish to further their knowledge of the customs of France and other French speaking countries. Their activities include bake sales and an international dinner. Under the supervision of Mr. Martin, their advisor, they are planning a trip to Canada. It is the goal of the club to make this trip an annual affair. Under the guidance of Mrs. Rooney, the girls in Secretarial Service Club volunteer their typing services to the faculty, the school organizations, and the community. In doing this, they receive practical experience which will benefit them whether they take a position immediately after graduation from high school or decide to attend college. rary CM The Library Club is a valuable asset to the library and to Miss Main, the librarian. The members assist at the charging and pass desks. They also make up book lists and displays. They also help by locating books asked for in reserve requests. The members become better acquainted with the library and the services it offers. l)arsiiy C ) ub The Varsity Club was formed to encourage, develop, and support athletics in Stillwater Central School. A new member must be voted in unanimously by the other members before he can become a member. In order to be eligible for membership, an athlete must have earned at least one varsity letter while attending Stillwater Central School. The members promote good sportsmanship and school spirit. future farmers of 7lrnerica The Future Farmers of America is an active organization in the school. It is as- sociated with the BOCES agricultural program and the agricultural courses taught in our school. The members engage in such activities as a Christmas tree sale and a turkey sale for the purpose of raising money. 7luc io TJisuaf CfuS With their advisor, Mr. Borst, these students repair and service the A.V. equipment. They often help teachers to set up and use projectors. By doing this they learn new skills and contribute to the educational program of the school. JJfiotoyrap iy The Photography Club is taught the an of taking, developing, and enlarging pictures by their advisor, Mr. Evans. They use the skills they learn by taking pictures for several school organizations including The Stillwater Review and The Warrior. The Current Events Club is a new organization that gives students the opportunity to get together and discuss current topics. Mr. Carpenter, the advisor, stresses that it is the students' club; they choose the topics to be discussed. During the year the students held debates on such problems as the use of drugs and they had guest speakers. Some of their time and efforts were spent in arranging such social affairs as picnics and parties. The school newspaper gives the students of a school an opportunity to learn to express themselves on the topics that are important to them. The newspaper club meets frequently to make assignments and plan their publication. Their advisors are Mr. Houston and Mrs. Mormile. 'Industrial 7lrts ( 'tub A new club in our school this year is the Industrial Arts Club. Under the supervision of Mr. Loggins, the members develop skills by making useful and artistic objects. They become better acquainted with and more adept at using the shop machinery. Airplane C Iub The Airplane Club is a group of boys who find enjoyment in making and flying model airplanes. The large open spaces around the school provide an excellent place for them to pursue their hobby. Mr. Evans is their advisor. In non-league competition they held a record of five wins and two losses. It was expected to be an average season for the Warriors, but to the surprise of many, they were in contention for the championship. They scored the most and were least scored upon in league competition. The precise passing of Noonan, the fine defense of Calicchia, the spectacular running of Maher, the excellent blocking of Mullady, and the superior catching of Chase were all important factors in a very satisfactory season. A cheerleader’s job is to get the spectators to support their team by yelling chants. Two pep rallies are held each year, at the beginning of each season. Here the students learn the chants. This year there were two Hush Days.” A penny fine was charged if a cheerleader caught any student talking in the halls. The money that was collected during the day was given to the class that could yell the loudest at the pep rally held at the end of the day. A varsity cheerleader must be in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. A Junior Varsity squad is chosen from the 9th, 10th or 11th grade. Tryouts are held at the end of each year. Cheerleading is a big ambition for most high school girls. Those chosen perform a great service for the school. PATTY (CO-CAPTAIN) DINDA Senior NELL BETTY (CAPTAIN) DONNA 7 tars ity ia 1969-70 The 1969-70 basketball season of the Stillwater Warriors began with four returning lettermen. Despite their definite lack of height, the Warriors were considered one of the best teams in the Washington County League. The team placed five starters anion the ten top scorers in the league. The keys to the success ot this year's team were its strong defense and balanced attack. The outlook for next season is one of uncertainty, but with the ever-improving junior players and a fine group of sophomores coming up there are good chances for a league championship. 1969-70 'J. V. J3 asJzetka Coach MacDougall, in his first year coaching, has had a fine season. The Stillwater J. V. 's waged a fantastic comeback after a slow start, with a four game winning-streak. They received good scoring from John Herrick and Dave Conley and fine ball handling from Dennis Hanehan. Benjy Nelson and John Potter lead the team in rebounding. With several of this year's team returning, next year's Junior Varsity season looks promising. 7 )arsity Jiaseba I The 1969 Varsity Baseball team won seventeen games and lost only one, capturing the Washington County League Trophy for the first time in seven years. Thanks to the superb pitching of Bill Caswell and Glenn Brewster, the consistent hitting of Bob Maher, Tim Boucher, Tom Noonan, and Tom Chase and the outstanding fielding of Dave Bochette, Jim Brown, Mike Reilly, Tom Tanner, and Pete Burgess, the Stillwater Warriors also became the Class D, Section II Champs. With all but two players returning, we're looking forward to a fine team again this year. M2 7.)resiling Wrestling is a sport which pits two men of equal weight against each other in a test of skill, determination and endurance. Men of all sizes, from ninety pounds to unlimited weight can wrestle. In its first year as a varsity sport, the team wrestled a full schedule of teams in the Washington County League. With its coach, Mr. Ken Schmidt, the team traveled to the Waterford Invitational Tournament and to the Washington County League Tournament. With all its wrestlers returning, the team looks forward to an excellent season next year.
