WARRIOR 1969 Stillwater Central School Stillwater, New York Foreword Wm We have always been told by our parents and other adults that we are living the best years of our lives. This we found hard to believe. How could the problems and struggles we faced during high school ever constitute any part of the best year of our lives? Now as our final year in high school comes to a close, we realize that these times are worth remembering. The world awaiting us holds many new horizons and new friendships, but we will want to look back at our old friends and teachers with whom we have shared our growth toward maturity. Nor do we want to forget the many memorable experiences of high school. We almost wish time would stand still so we could always be together! We realize the impossibility of our wish; therefore, this book portrays for others, and records for us. the times that have formed - the best years of our lives. 2 Table of Contents Student Life...................7 Administration and............13 Faculty Seniors........................27 Underclassmen..................47 Activities.....................59 Athletics......................71 Elementary.....................85 Advertisements.................97 3 Yearbook Staff MEMBERS OF THE STAFF: Ellen Nobles - Co-editor Jack Overton - Co-editor Kathy Fitzpatrick Michele Filer Judy Guttridge Elise Ether Colman Kusick Laura Vega Vicky Cargill Kathy Ryan Cindy Hope The staff of the 1969 WARRIOR consisted of eleven hard-working Seniors, who gave up most of their extra time to work on the yearbook. Ellen Nobles and Jack Overton, co-editors of the 1969 WARRIOR, organized the plans and got the staff going. These Seniors worked together, along with their advisor, Mrs. Butler, to produce a yearbook of which the staff and the student body can be proud. Creating the yearbook was a constructive experience which can never be forgotten. 4 Advertising Staff Elise Ether Kathy Fitzpatrick Jody Baker Judy Guttridge Cindy Hope Vicky Cargill Ellen Nobles Jack Overton Pam Patterson Not in picture: Sherry McDonald Ronney Brownell The advertising staff and the typists are to be thanked for contributing their time and service to the 1969 Warrior. The advertising staff solicited and secured ads from nearby business establishments. With the help of the typists, the yearbook staff was able to meet their deadlines and bring this yearbook to you. The assistance of both groups has been greatly appreciated. Typing Staff Kathy Fitzpatrick Susan Folmsbee Jody Baker Karen Murphy 5 Dedication To the graduating class of 1969, he is more than a member of the faculty. He is our friend and advisor. To him we are more than students. We are young adults attempting to meet our goals. To Stillwater Central he has dedicated his knowledge and his desire to teach. To all of his students he has supplied a challenge and the means to fulfill it. To our athletic events he has devoted his time, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. To Mr. Edgar Richards, instructor of Biology, we, the graduating class of 1969, dedicate this book. Know then thyself ... the proper study of mankind is man. One of the major activities of the Student Council is the raising of money to help a United Nations Program concerned with the building of schools in foreign countries. The Student Court which has not been in effect for several years is again in existence. Jim Bryan, works in cooperation with Mr. Porter. The members of the court have been called together several times to advise and consult with Mr. Arnold about disciplinary actions concerning the students. 60 Student Court Library Club The Library Club assists our librarian, Miss Main, in all aspects of library work. Members are selected from students in the junior and senior classes who have achieved an average of 85°lo or more and who, in the opinion of the faculty, have proven themselves outstanding in service, leadership, and character. Probationary members are received into full membership in their junior year providing that they continue to uphold the four qualities of scholarship, leadership, service and character. 62 Leaders Club The Leaders Club is rather a new club to our school. The members are chosen on the basis of their leadership abilities and their participation in both class and intramural activities. The purpose of the organization shall be to encourage and develop leadership qualities, to assist in all phases of the Physical Education Program. Mrs. Ravena is their advisor. The Varsity Club is one in which one must be unanimously voted on by the other members before he can himself become a member. To be eligible for membership one must have earned at least one varsity letter while attending Stillwater Central School. The members promote school spirit and good sportsmanship -beneficial qualities needed and striven for by all schools. Varsity Club Senior Band This year the Senior Band has been working hard to achieve a symphonic band style. It has given two school concerts, participated in parades, and is a participating organization of the Albany Symphony. The activities of the band are open to all students who desire to express themselves through music. Mr. Saetta is their advisor. 64 Future Farmers of America The Future Farmers of America is coordinated with the agricultural courses offered in our school, to the BOCES program, and to the other county-wide chapters. Under the guidance of Mr. McClay, the Future Farmers further their knowledge and experience in agriculture. Wrestling Club A new activity for Stillwater Central School is wrestling. Wrestling is a sport which requires skill and practice just as the more widely recognized sports of football and basketball. By next year we hope to have a wrestling team ready and eager to participate in meets with other schools. 65 Senior Chorus This year the Senior Chorus has sought to achieve new heights in the world of music. With 16 letter-men returning from last year’s team, the Warriors, while not being rated as the top contender for the Tri-County League title, were, nevertheless, given an outside chance to win. The first game of the season saw Stillwater travel to Ockawamick High for a non-league game. The Warriors were picked as the underdog in the game, but the quality and superb physical condition of our team became apparent when we emerged with a 21-7 victory. Our next game, also non-league, was with South Glens Falls on our field. South High led 6-0 for three quarters, when, early in the fourth quarter, the Warriors took a 7-6 lead. South High, however, fought back to score another touchdown and eventually went on to win 12-7. Schuylerville, a traditional rival, afforded our first league competition. The game, played at home, saw Stillwater romp over the Horses in a 48-13 win. The following Saturday Stillwater faced a well-drilled Hoosick Falls team at our opponent's gridiron. Strong running by our backs and an impenetrable defense brought the Warriors a 20-0 shutout. Returning to Stillwater, the Warriors next faced the St. Peter's eleven. Although it rained throughout most of the game, the Warriors fought to an easy 27-2 victory. Cambridge, a top championship threat, was next in line to fall to the Warriors. Playing at home, Stillwater once again exhibited its explosive offense and unrelenting defense in a 26-0 whitewash over the Indians. The stage was now set for the championship game with Greenwich, also undefeated in league play. At the end of the first half, the Warriors found themselves trailing 13-0, but the second half was a different story as Stillwater fought hack to tie the game at 13-13. On what was to be the last play of the game, the Witches' quarterback dropped back to pass. Finding no one open, he was forced to run, and no Stillwater man was able to stop him. No member of the Warrior squad, especially the fourteen Seniors, will ever forget the last six seconds of the game in which we lost the championship to Greenwich in a hard fought 19-13 defeat. 72 J.
