It was the year 1956 liven with this new school building, the people of Stillwater knew they would eventually need even more space and began to prepare for that event. In 1965 the need became greater, and so the modern high school building is now in the process of growing again. It is hoped that in the early part of the 1907-68 school year, an addition that will increase the size of the present building will be completed. Plans for an atomic plant in tin Stillwater area now bring the promise of better business opportunities and a greater pop ulatiuid The need for more room in our school w ill come again; and it will be met, as it he been met before. Activities Ca iona Jfonor Society One of the most dramatic events of the year at Stillwater Central School is the assembly program sponsored by the National Honor Society. At this time new members are tapped from the senior and junior classes, and probationary members are named from the sophomore class. In order to be eligible for membership in the Society, seniors and juniors must maintain an average of 85%; sophomores are required to have an average of90%. In addition to this, eligible students must be outstanding in Character, Leadership, and Service. The members pictured above are: (seated) Alan Vega, Marion Yarter, June Marshall, Karen Smith, Linda Marshall (standing) Kathleen Gorski, Joseph Petronis, Thomas Barbolt, and Nancy Cassier. The Library Club is one of the service organizations of Stillwater that helps the librarian during school hours. They assist in many ways with all phases of work in our library, and help to make it an efficient study for all students. Secretarial Service cu The members of the Secretarial Service Club put their skills in typing and other business practices to good use by contributing their services to such groups as the teachers, the Fire Department, and the Salvation Army. Their generosity is greatly appreciated by the members of the community. £,b. rarij G u6 1. Bryan, D. Chase L. Russell, N. Patterson, M Raymond, B Snow, H Brownell, K. Moore. C. The members of the FFA follow a vocational agriculture program in their studies in school and sponsors such activities as Christmas tree sales, basketball games, and others. Juture Jc armers of 7. merica Clubs such as the FTA and FFA give students an insight into their future vocations by providing them with a sampling of what these careers are like. JKat i Qilub The Math Club, a new'organization at Stillwater this year, under the able guidance of Miss Blake, has already participated in such activities as: a trip to the Rennselaer County Junior Museum, helping check and correct figures for the new addition, and regular weekly meetings. More field trips and mathematical contests with other schools are being planned for the future. ( 'Aess G uS The members of the Chess Club, and their advisor, Mr. O’Neill, spend many hours engaging in contests among themselves and other schools. 7. )as u'nyton ( )fu6 The V ashington Club is an organization composed of all seniors who plan to attend the traditional field trip to our nation s capital. The trip itself is the result of many months of planning and fund-raising through such activities as the sale of candy, magazines, and greeting cards. This trip to Washington is always a memorable experience for all those who go. SI G u6 A very popular activity at Stillwater, the Ski Club, has many members who enjoy weekly trips to a local ski area. The highlight of the year is an annual trip to Mount Snow in Vermont. The “Warriors” didn’t expect to be a top title threat, but they did eye the comeback trail. Injuries and lack of depth played a large role this year. In the opener Stillwater led throughout the whole game, only to have Cambridge tie the game 13-13 in the final minutes. Stillwater’s points came as Whalen took it over from the 2, Rourke made an extra point. Rourke also scored on a 3 yard run. The following Saturday, the “Warriors” were defeated by a strong St. Peter’s team, 25-6. Stillwater’s only score came in the second quarter as Minick intercepted a pass and, with the help of some good blocks from his teammates, ran 80 yards for the touchdown. Against Greenwich, Stillwater battled to a 6-6 tie at the halftime, only to lose it in the second half 20-6. The Warrior touchdown came as Marshall threw an 11 yard pass to Minick. Against Schuylerville, the “Warriors” led in the first quarter 7-0; but the “Horses” scored in the remaining 3 quarters to hand them a 20-7 defeat. Minick took a 35 yard pass from Whalen for the touchdown, and Carpenter scored the extra point. The “Warriors” then traveled to Broadalbin, this time to be on the short end of a 19-7 score. Rourke scored the touchdown and C. Carpenter scored the extra point. The next week Stillwater lost to a tough Fort Edward team 31-6. Stillwater’s touchdown came as Marshall threw a pass to Minick, who ran it in for the score. Winding up the season, the “Warriors” hosted a strong Hoosick Falls team in a heart breaker, as a Warrior touchdown was called back enabling Hoosick Falls to win 24-21. Stillwater’s score came as Minick skirted left end and with key blocks by Rivers, Carney, and Carpenter, ran for a touchdown. J. Carpenter added the extra point; then Drumm went for a touchdown. Minick took a pass from Marshall and ran 40 for another touchdown. C. Carpenter scored the extra point. Things look good for next year’s team as only three seniors are leaving.
