A Modern F airy Tale fOr1ginalJ Once upon a time there was a king whose name was World and as you have suspected, he had a wonderfully beautiful daughter whose name was Freedom of the Seas This king also had a Golden Fleece more wonderful than the one of ancient Greece because this one was the golden Fleece of Democracy This Fleece was valued by Kmg World more than anything else he possessed so you can imagine the conster nation of the Kmg when a huge, hideous giant known to all as the Kaiser came to visit Kmg World and after getting into the good graces of this monarch stole the Golden Fleece of Democracy and fled with it to his strong castle Berlin in Prussia Kmg World was frantic and offered his daughter Prmcess Freedom of the Seas in marriage to any knight who would rescue and bring back to him the Golden Fleece of Democracy Now many gallant knights loved the Princess Freedom of the Seas but they all turned pale and said that if those were the conditions of marriage with the Princess she would be an old maid because they all knew that no one would ever rescue the Golden Fleece of Democracy from the Kaiser Howver, there was one small kmght braver than the others who offered to make an attempt to rescue the Golden Fleece of Democracy Accordingly, he set out and no one ever heard of him any more Thus things went on until King World was beginning to fear that his Golden Fleece of Democracy was gone forever when one day a strange kmght came to his court He told the Kmg that his name was Prince Entente and upon hearing the K1ng's tale of woe he immediately set out to rescue the Golden Fleece of Democracy King World was delighted at his departure and Princess Freedom-of-the-Seas began to work upon her trousseau so that she might marry Entente upon his return. Leaving the Princess thus engaged we shall follow the adventures of the Prince who had not gone far when he met the fairy I mention. She was pale and weak and his appearance touched the heart of Entente, who solicitously inquired her destination. She replied that it was the court of King World, but that she had been held prisoner by the horrible giant the Kaiser for so long that she was so weak she could hardly go. Upon hearing this Entente explained to her that he was going to rescue the Golden Fleece of Democracy and asked her if she could suggest a way by which he might rescue it more easily. At this Invention became very sad and told Entente that this was an almost hopeless task and she could not help him, save! by giving him a great black charger whose name was British Tank, a magic sword called Machine Gun, and last but not least an invisible coat called Gas Mask. Entente thanked her gratefully for the three gifts. She sadly bade him farewell, and they continued on their separate ways. Entente had not gone far when he saw the body of wounded Peace lying beside the road. His anger mounted and he exclaimed, Only one person could have done this! He knelt beside Peace and soon discovered faint flutter of her pulse, and much encouraged by this, he looked around for a place where she might be sheltered. Far away he saw a huge red cross shining in the sun and he knew that he was nearing the castle of the Red Cross which, while not entirely free from the depredations of the Kaiser, had been nearer so than the other castles. To this he took the senseless Peace and seeing her in safe hands he again continued his way. Again he had not gone far when he noticed a knight in full armour lying across the road. Removing this knight's helmet he found himself gazing into a pale, suffering face. NK fit I ' is Fi N U ,,f,,...w.- -X 5 PARTY FOR HEAVENER FOOT BALL BOYS On Friday October 10 1919 the Senior Class of Stigler High School entertained the Heavener Foot Ball Boys The party was held in the Primary room of the High School building which was decorated with penants and ferns The evening was spent in play mg games in which the prizes were awarded to Carl Frlx and Sylvia Burton Re freshments, consisting of hot chocolate and cake were served at a late hour The party closed with a farewell to the Heavener Foot Ball team, wishing them better luck elsewhere than they had in Stigler WEINIE ROAST FOR FOOT BALL BOYS On Friday October 24th 1919 the girls of Stigler High School gave the foot ball boys a wemle roast The lunches were prepared by the glrls and everyone assembled on the school grounds at seven oclock, where we loaded into trucks and started to-we knew not where When we stopped we were at Bald Knob where the boys built up a big camp fire over which we toasted welmes, marshmallows and bread After the fire had died down until Just a glow was cast over the crowd of us some one started up a song and everyone Joined In this way we spent the rest of the evening We started home about eleven thirty Slhglng all the Way home MRS. MEANS ENTERTAINS FOR THE FT. SMITH FOOT BALL BOYS On November 11, 1919, we had the most interesting foot ball game of the season between Stigler and Ft. Smith High Schools. After the game a most delightful lunch- eon was given at the home of Mr. and Mars. E. D. Means, honoring both teams and their lady friends. The evening was spent in discussing the game until the train, on which our visiting team was to leave, was due. Every one went with them to the train, bid- ding them farewell. A most delightful time was had by everyone. ALL-DAY PICNIC The annual May Day picnic of Stigler High School was the biggest and most enjoyed of all outings this year. The girls prepared the baskets while the boys furnished the trucks. We assembled on the school ground at eight o'clock in the morning and started for Mountain Fork, arriving there about ten thirty. The boys began to fish and the girls to prepare dinner, which was spread and ready to eat by eleven-thirty. After dinner there was swimming for about an hour and one half. After this every one was ready for something to eat, so the girl fixed a lunch, and after eating it, we came home. This picnic was enjoyed by every one and we hope it will be a thing to look forward to every year. Q t ' , ll ' ' .fl I If ' Y Y Y Q - u , n 7 Ah my compamon in arms exclaimed Entente impulsively Tell me who has done this and your wrongs shall be avenged a thousand fold It can never be 0 the other knight repl d I set out from King World s cour to rescue the Golden Fleece of Democracy and had arrived only thus far when a huge bird sailed over my head and dropped bombs on me woundmg me sorely Oh' exclaimed Entente That must be the Zeppelm of which Invention told me If I had only a place to leave you while I push on to avenge your wrongs' Here he felt a gentle touch on his arm and lookmg up he beheld a beautiful Maiden standing beside him I will care for your wounded comrade she said softly if you wish to continue on your way against the Kaiser Who are you' cried Entent I rephed the strange maiden am Columbia the guardian angel of the Americas 'I have heard much of you and feel that I can safely trust my comrade to yo Entente said and taking a tender leave of the wounded knight he continued on his way He had not gone far when he came to an impenetrable forest which he immed lately recognized to be the much talked of Forest of Barbed Wire Entanglements Remembering the Fairy Inventions saying that his charger British Tank would rush through such a forest, he mounted him with a sigh of relief and before he realized it he was carried safely through it Just as he was safely through the forest he fell from his horse faint with exhaustion and hunger As he lay breathless and mert, a uff voice asked him ' Wlhat ails you friend? En ente replied I am faint with hunger 'Is that all asked the old man then eat all you want my brave Entente and so saying the old man gave him a generous supply of food and drmk Lntente said, after he had eaten all he could You know me, but who ale you? The old man laughed and said, I am Uncle Sam, representative of the United States. My niece, Miss Columbia, told me of your bravery and though I am rather old I have joined you to help rid King World of that horrible nuisance, the Kaiser. Much cheered by these words Entente arose and suggested that they push on to the Castle Berlin-in-Prussia. Soon they saw the tall towers of this Castle far away on the plain and Entente rushed forward eagerly. He had only gone a short distance when he could see that the doors of the castle were guarded by two firey griffin Boches. Playing before the castle was a huge sea monster which Entente knew to be a U-Boat, the Super-Monster. Circling above the castle was a huge bird and Entente knew that this was a Zeppelin. Undaunted by these sights Entente rushed forward eagerly, only to be met by an overwhelming wave of gas. He quickly put on his invisible coat, Gas Mask, and passed untouched through all. He arrived at the moat around the castle only to be met by a shower of hand grenades hurled by an unseen foe. He immediately pointed his trusty sword, Machine Gun, upon this spot and ploughed up the ground, unearthing a mass of Turks, Bulgers and Austrians who had been in the moat. Spare us! they all cried, falling upon their knees before Entente, we have not wanted to kill the innocent and burn beautiful cities. I believe you, Entente replied readily, and you must prove your sincerety by helping me storm this castle. The Turks, Bulgars and Austrians willing, stormed the castle and Entente was soon in possession of it. It contained many cells-and from all of these came deep Q L .
