Before this year the word Agriculture merely meant the study of some of the Theory of Agriculture Now, however, since the school has met the requlrements of the Smlth Hughes Law the word Agrlculture has taken a Wider meanlng When a student enrolls ln the de partment now, he spends one half of hlS tlme ln studying Agriculture a a Science, and from 9. practical standpolnt It IS an established fact that Agrlculture will play an lmportant part ln the llfe and prosperity of our school and our town Then why should not our boys who mean to make farmers, be trained for thelr vocatlon the same as a lawyer or a doctor This IS exactly what our Agrlcultural Department wlll strlve to do ln Ithe future It IS not the town boy that we are interested ln, nelther IS It the boy who lntends to go to college after he flnlshes high school, but It IS the boy who lntends to follow farming as a vocation after finishing high school and is not able to attend college, that our depart- ment will try most to serve. In this effort we are fortunate in being backed by the Federal Government. ' The school has been passed on by the Director of Vocational Education and ap- proved, which means that the school will get Federal aid for carrying on this program. In planning the new auditorium to the building, our department has been given ample consideration. The department will consist of three divisions, a class room, used for recitations and library work, a laboratory used for Carrying on germination and soil tests, and experiments with different kinds of plantsg a shop which will be constructed and equipped as a practical farm shop. In this shop we will do work of the same na- ture that the modern farmer is likely to have to do almost daily. Of course the pro- gram is in its infancy, but with the zeal and backing we are receiving from our' School Board and Commercial Club, as well as Uncle Sam, we feel sure that our department will grow and serve the people in a practical and common sense way.
