'. ,.,- Q1 .N xv-' ,K , wi -'-'-if ---- - 1- 1 .. ff-' .- HE SEASON opened this year ,with the ever present pep and enthusiasm of the S. H. S. Many eager faces were on the field the afternoon of the first practice. This was much encouragement to Coaches' Frix and Bailey, whose untiring coaching soon developed the squad into the strongest team ever produced by Stigler High. The team went through the season undefeated. Manager Walden deserves much credit for the success of the team because of his ceaseless efforts and self-sacrifices. Never during the entire season was any individual playing doneg all played team football, showing excellent team-work. Our line at first was of raw material and some- what light, but held wonderfully when on the defensive, holding Fort Smith for the downs three consecutive times. After defeating Heavener, many looked forward to a brilliant victory over Warner, our old rival. As the story goes, no one was disappointed, for the score went 31 to 0, with Warner having the small end. They werd ,more or less surprised themselves. Never in previous years has S. H. S. proved superior to this strong College team of Eastern Oklahoma. We were outweighed by every team the whole season, but this prpved no odds, for our line was invincible and the back field unsurpassed. Our men went to each game with pep and determination, playing the opponents off their feet. Goins, in the Ozark game, got away with a pass for a touchdown the first three minutes of the game. Wad- ley did the same thing in Warner's sad defeat. The hardest game of the season was that with Fort Smith, which was a game of real football. LeFlore made a beautiful drop kick from the 35-yard line, and after the kick-off, intercepted a pass and made a 30-yard run, putting the ball on the 10-yard line, then Cooper for the third time, carried it across. Thus ended the successful season of Stigler I-Iigh's strongest team, being unde- feated and conquering some of the stiffest teams in the eastern part 'of the state.
