The Nqr, Shop Before the Christmas holidays commenced, the high school presented its semi-annual operetta, 'AThe Nifty Shop, under the auspices of Miss Marion O'Connor The scene was laid in an exclusive dress shop presided over by Vladame La Zarre a sophisticated French woman The story opens with the conversation between two of the little French maids of the shop and is followed by an amusing scene between Madame La Zarre and her Swedish maid Olga Shortly after Mrs Goldore a wealthy society woman enters with her two young daughters During the ensuing scene she becomes ex ceedmgly distraught over these young ladies for one is very maudlm and just adores all the dresses while the other is very fastidious and cant be pleased with any of the clothes Meanwhile the chorus in various costumes appear and parade before Madame and her visitors Finally the society woman and her obnoxious daughters depart leaving Madame La Zarre Olga and the models to close the play in song The characters were well portrayed by the cast which consisted of Alberta Weichmann Alice Shepherd Florence Franklin Shirley Russell and Vlary Newton Minor roles were played by Helen Raklios and Hazel Herzog Alice Shepherd s presentation of Madame La Zarre the proprietress of the shop was remarkably well done Shirley Russell as usual caused a riot of laughter rn her portrayal of Olga Other presentations were also well done Alberta Weichmann giving her customary creditable performance and Florence Franklin surprising everyone by her display of acting ability All of the cast sang well and due mention should be made of the dancing which was done by Jane McCurdy and Vera O Neill Tulzp Yzme With the coming of spring and the close of school the second operetta and the last entertainment of the year is given Although the Sprlng operettas are usually more entertaining than those at Christmas we feel that this one to which country an American professor of botany and his pupils come The pupils promptly fall in love with two of the little Dutch girls and in order to get the professor out of the way make him dress according to the description of a thief who rs wanted for stealrng the prize tulips from the annual show I'hc professor is of course arrested and the pupils are free to continue their wooing which they do to very delightful music The dialogue is extremely amusing and the music well worth hearing The cast includes Vera O Neill Alice Shepherd Shirley Nelle Russell Sarah Frances Savage Florence Franklin Frances ONeill Helen Raklios and Alberta Weichmann As usual it will be presented under the supervision of Miss OConnor and will take place on May 20 at the Edgewater Presbyterian Church Frances O Nelll . .
