Pqeflun one as soon ae possible, but Mrs McIntosh said she had better call another plumber as the water might flood the house, so she called Brown's Plumbing Company They said- they would send someone over lmmedlatley We waited for about a half hour, and suddenly both the front and back belle rang Donnie went to the back door and his wife to the front Plumbers appeared at both doors The owners seldon did Jobs themselves, but since lt was for Donnie, they had decided to come themselves Of course, they were Eldon Brown and Melvin Halter When the Job was finished, we began to talk Both were leading business men 1 the city I told them they should team up as Laurel and Hardy CThat's a Joke, son The next morning I thanked Donnie and his wife for their wonderful hospl tality and told them that I must be leaving Donn1e's '52' Buick was in the shop, so he called a taxi for me I said goodbye and started for the airport as I had decided to fly the rest of the way out West 'Where to, lady'? said a familiar voice As I looked at him, I recognized him as being Gordon Holt asked him what he was doing driving a cab He told me he had been driving the ready saved over fifteen hundred dollars By that time we were at the airport, and I wished him the best of luck bought my ticket and boarded the huge trans port plane To my surprise who should be the pilot but that handsome Captain Tlrrel Burton He looked ever so fine ln his uniform and so dignified We talked for a little while, and he asked me if I had seen his wife who was the airline hostess I told him I hadn't, but I was very eager to meet her '0h, you know her a1ready,' he said 'You see I mar Oh, here she is now ' It was none other than Louise Bannister or Burton now She talked to me when she had an opportunity She and Tirrel were on the same run and worked every other week I was glad to see her She told me that two weeks ago she had seen Frances White, who is an artist for the leading magazines of the world She had gone to Europe to sketch a nursery scene for PPIHCHI El1zabeth's baby's room When I reached California, I went immediately to Hollywood, and whom should I see but Betty and Audrey Hunt who are stars in Paramount Pictures They look ed beautiful and both were married to producers in Hollywood While there, I stopped with my sister and brother in law and their seven year old child, Marcia who was in the Hollywood elementary school Marcia wanted me to meet her teacher, who she said, is the smartest teacher in the world. . n 7. . . IILHSS PHUPHEIIU I have always wanted to take a trip to the West Coast and this year I deold ed to do so On the way I decided I'd stop to see some of my classmates As I left Grand Central Station and eat down to enjoy my ride, I noticed a nice looking lady with a little boy I recognized her at once as being my old classmate, Grace Baker, and the little boy was her student She was going t California to give a lecture on her famous method of teaching children We began talking about school days, the fun we had had and the whereabouts of some of our classmates 'Of course,' she said, 'you know Jean Sheard ls a pharmacist and owns a chain of drug stores ' I knew this as it had been in the paper A tall, good looking conductor came through and called the next station, and who should it be but Harold Pats? He told us he was married and lived in Chicago When I got off the train in Columbus to go to my hotel, I told Grace good bye and walked down the street I thought I would go into the famous Lazarus store to see about getting a gift for my sister, and as I walked ln, a handsome man met me and welcomed me to the store Who should it be but Melvin Wing, now the manager of the store? He asked me to sit down and see the shiek style show to be presented soon The model wore an exquisite evening gown with a mink coat ing room after the show and told me she wanted me to see someone I might know It was her secretary, and to my surprise it was none other than Faye Bufler, who had been abroad seven times since graduation I asked Faye and Lois what had become of Delores Browning They told me she had become the leading steno grapher at Ford's plant ln Detroit with eighteen stenographlc assistants After I left the store, I decided to go to the theatre and see a light comedy The stars were Donald Lang and Betty Gatliff in 'Life Is A Notebook' I went back stage, and they told me that they had been to all the forty eight states with this show and that it was scheduled to hit Broadway within three months When I arrived at a hotel, I found that all the rooms had been taken, but as luck would have lt, the manager of the hotel was none other than dashing Donald McIntosh who said that he would be glad to let me stay at his home H e home was beautiful It was an eleven room house with three baths His wife was very charming and his five daughters were the image of Donnie While I was there, they had a bit of trouble with a water pipe it broke and they had to call 9110 HB1-701' Plumbing c0mp8.!'ly The men were all out and said they would send some . o thrown over the shoulder. P1 Slillllfll I went with her the next day, and who should her teacher be but Jean Ross Jean and I talked for a long time before school started She loves teaching and has received her master's degree at U C L A In the summer she makes speeches Jean told me to be certain to go in to see the principal of the school who was none other than John Milbourne We talked quite some time I was really sur prlsed to see all these people from my high school class He told me he wanted to see another classmate who owned a ranch on the outskirts of Hollywood He wouldn't tell me who it was, and to my astonishment it was Timmothy McDonough Ho had a grape vineyard and also raised vegetables He was telling us that his profit for last year was Sl75,500,000 We had a delicious meal at his home When went back to my sister's home there was a bright light ln the living room and there were Ralph Beal and Donald Clark Both were famous men now, both owning half interest in the Hollywood National Trust and Sav1ng's bank They had done wonderfully well out here in the Vest We all went to the interesting Brown Derby There again we saw the stars, Betty and Audrey Hunt, who sang They talked to me a little longer and said that their next movie would be 'Now Before I left California, I wanted to see U C L A Jean had told me so much about it As I walked on the campus, I noticed a sign that read 'Welcome to U C L A Wllburn Catron,President At first I thought it was someone else, but I had to be sure I went to the office, and the secretary took my name The door flew open and out walked Wilburn I was really proud of this fellow just think, president of one of the largest universities in the United States It goes to show, as I told Mr Dockum when I was grauduated, that the olass of 1948 would really be an up and going class and Then' directed by David O. Selznlck Jr. in which they have the leading roles.
