SOHiOMORE CLASS HISTORY On September l th, I9I4U a very timid group of twenty-four fresh- men seated themselves side by side in the front seats of the study hall. Included in this group werei Charles Bancroft, Delores Bendel, Rose oischoff, Violet Blaha, Joreen Braford, Velda Burden, George Fain, Jane Frits, Donald Frober, Theresa Fuzak, Floyd Hucko, Jerry Huebner, Joseph Hues, Allen Jewell, Jacques Jorgensen, Joyce Luhrs, Loris Mallett, William HieIke, Ann Rutkowski, Marvin Sounart, Betty Wagner, and Betty Wedde. We met and elected class officers with Velda Burden as President; Joseph Hues, Vice President; Marvin Sounart, sec- retary; and William Mielke, treasurer. We were not considered full- fledged freshmen until we were given the traditional initation by the Sophomores. We returned this party in February. Six-thirty on April 20th found us waiting at Prudek’s station for the Chicago bound bus. The museum of Natural History and the Museum of Science and Industry were principal points of interest. Our freshman year ended with a picnic at the House of David amusement park. Having had the experience of being high school students for one year we sophomores unhesitatingly relincuished our front row of seats to the succeeding freshmen. Roll call found Delores Bendel, Joreen Braford, George Fain, Jim Fain, Donald Frober, Joyce Luhrs, Betty Wag- ner, and Ann Rutkowski absent. In their places were William Koppit, Edward Xhula, and Fred Rades. Class officers for the year are» Marvin Sounart, President; Jerry Huebner, Vice President; Leris Mallett, Secretary; and Floyd Hucko, Treasurer. This year Fred Rades and William Koppit have left us, but the rest of us are looking forward with anticipation to next year when we will be Juniors. —Loris Mallett 148 FRES..MAN CLASS When the 19 45 school year opened it was found that there were only nine students enrolled as Freshmen. It was one of the smallest classes Stovenaville High School ever had. There were five boys and four girls. A few weeks later the class held a meeting at which the officers wore elected. For our president we elected Ray Reitz and for vice- president Alan Radde. Oscar Ziemba was treasurer and the secretary was Lucille Bischoff. In the month of October the Freshmen were initiated by the Sopho- mores with the help of the Juniors and Seniors. Pails of bric«cs were handed to each member to carry. The boys wore bath robes, while the girls wore slacks rolled up to their knees. Lipstick was used to dis- guise their faces. We had to walk to town in the costumes. That night there were all sorts of stunts and, from the laughter of the au- dience, it was quite a show. This was entertainment for the other classes and uhe faculty. At Christmas the Freshman Class presented Mrs. Hunter with a beautiful compact for our appreciation of her guidance. As the last month of school approaches we find that two of our members have quit, which leaves only seven. We Freshmen, who will be Sophomores next year, hope for growth in numbers in the years to come. We also want to thank the other classes and the faculty for being so nice to us during our Freshman year and to wish them the best of luck in future years. —Frankie Thomas, Class of '1 9 i;'
