66 THE VIDETTE Extra Curricular Activities BOYS' HIGH SCHOOL Seventeen extra-curricular clubs were organized this semester. The plan adopted is a new one and permits each club to meet during school time which heretofore was not done. The clubs met twice each month. On the third Wednes- day of each month a club presented a program in the auditorium. J A CK RHEN High School Cooperative lntlustrial Course The Cooperative Industrial Department which is included in the curriculum of the Boys' High School was started September 1, 1926. A group of about 38 boys have been following this course during the past year. 74 have applied for this semester's course. Due to the limited facilities only 45 boys were accepted. It has established a better feeling between the council and the student body. It has raised more than enough money for a motion picture machine. The council has rewarded the fellows interested in the activities of the school by awarding Certificates of Merits. THE VIDETTE 65 Stevens High Sehooll Chorus The worth of the chorus has been proven by its growth from a very small number two years ago, to 285 today. It is a voluntary organizationg no credit is given for the Work. Its purpose is to cultivate a taste for better music and also a chance to discover talented students. Two half hour periods a week are given to this work. Some of the outstanding programs in which this organiza- tion performed this semester Were: D. A. R. exercises for Dr. Burk, rector of Valley Forge Memorial Chapel, Music Week, and the Unveiling of the Buchanan Memorial Statue. Stevens High Sehooll Gllee Clluh The Girls' Glee Club is composed of 32 voices carefully chosen from the en- tire student body, and meeting every Thursday of the week at 7:30 A. M. FLORENCE REIKER Due to lack of time this club did not appear at as many public programs as before, but recently it sang at the Music Week program, Parent-Teachers' Asso- ciation, Kiwanis Club, and on several occasions in chapel exercises. The Honor Soeietfy This organization is one of the active ones of the school, and has contributed in many ways. One of its recent programs was a pageant given for Memorial Day. The Annual Banquet was held June 12 at which alumnae members were present. The present organization consists of 21 enrolled members and 73 alumni members. Of these 21 twelve will be graduated in June. The clubs continued the scholarship of 5100.00 and started a second sim- ilar scholarship. The money for these scholarships was raised by a concert in April. The Band played for the various activities in the school as Well as outside of school. They furnished music for the basketball games, the Parent-Teacher's meetings and the County Historical Society at Valley Forge on Lancaster County Day. The Band is headed by Elwood Schwan M'29, and directed by Mr. List. Cemhined Orchestra The past year has shown a very marked increase in the number of boys and girls interested in the instrumental music work of the Orchestra. Some ninety students are enrolled in the two orchestras under the direction of Leigh E. Wittell. The Junior Orchestra has made very satisfactory progress this semester.
