With secretaries to do their clerical work, the administrators kept the learning ball rolling. Students were often sent to these men for disciplinary reasons. They had to make dec- isions on punishment, often making them seem like the bad guys. Teachers became jacks-of-all-trades because of the many classes offered and the numbers of students who took them. Additions to the teaching staff, making it the biggest ever, meant there were less classrooms than teachers. It was hard for some of them, not having a classroom to call their own, and as a result some teachers were in a different classroom every hour of the day.
